Journal ArticleDOI

An improved method to determine the absolute abundance of glycerol dibiphytanyl glycerol tetraether lipids

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of a newly synthesized C46 GDGT as an internal standard was used to measure absolute GDGT abundances more accurately, and the accuracy in the determination of GDGT concentration improved significantly when using the internal standard (5% standard deviation) compared to that obtained with the monthly external standard curve (43% standard deviations).
Journal ArticleDOI

Analytical methodology for TEX86 paleothermometry by high-performance liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: The results suggest that TEX86 analysis by HPLC/APCI-MS is robust and can be determined with analytical errors comparable to those of other temperature proxies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selective preservation of organic matter in marine environments; processes and impact on the sedimentary record

TL;DR: The main theme of the workshop as discussed by the authors was to understand the impact of selective degradation/preservation of organic matter (OM) in marine sediments on the interpretation of the fossil record, including the influence of the molecular composition of OM in relation to the biological and physical depositional environment, including new methods for determining complex organic biomolecules.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the TEX86 paleothermometer in the water column and sediments of the Santa Barbara Basin, California

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-resolution sediment record from 1850 to 1987 A.D. from the Santa Barbara Basin was analyzed for TEX86, a temperature proxy based on marine crenarchaeotal membrane lipids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Soil organic carbon storage in mountain grasslands of the Pyrenees: effects of climate and topography

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used georeferenced climatic information for climatic descriptions of the sites and determined topographical variables can be used as predictors of soil organic C stocks and organic C content in the surface soil horizons of these ecosystems.
