TL;DR: It is shown that H7 viruses probably transferred from domestic duck to chicken populations in China on at least two independent occasions and subsequently reassorted with enzootic H9N2 viruses to generate the H7N9 outbreak lineage, and a related previously unrecognized H7n7 lineage.

Innate immune responses to influenza A H5N1: friend or foe?
TL;DR: Comparison of the virology and pathogenesis of human seasonal influenza viruses (H3N2 and H1N1) and H5N1 in patients, animal models and relevant primary human cell cultures is instructive and focuses on the possible contribution of the host innate immune response in the pathogenic of this disease.

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that H5 vaccine can interrupt virus transmission in a field setting in Hong Kong in 2002 when there were outbreaks of H5N1 disease in waterfowl in two recreational parks, wild water birds, several poultry markets and five chicken farms.

TL;DR: It is found that, in vitro, influenza A/H5N1 infection impaired alveolar fluid clearance more than did seasonal virus, mimicking its greater severity in patients, and it is demonstrated that this impairment is mediated by the release of soluble factors from infected cells, leading to down-regulation ofAlveolar sodium and chloride transporters.
