Journal ArticleDOI

Circulating tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-1 and interleukin-6 concentrations in chronic alcoholic patients

TL;DR: The data suggest that tumor necrosis factor‐α and interleukin‐1α are related to some of the metabolic consequences of both acute and chronic alcohol‐induced liver disease, whereas interleukain‐6 is related to abnormalities seen in acute liver injury.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibiotics protect against fructose-induced hepatic lipid accumulation in mice: role of endotoxin.

TL;DR: The hypothesis that high fructose consumption may not only lead to liver damage through overfeeding but also may be directly pro-inflammatory by increasing intestinal translocation of endotoxin is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytokines in alcoholic liver disease.

TL;DR: There is an emerging rationale for use of anticytokine therapy in alcoholic liver disease, with the goal of maintaining beneficial effects of cytokines and inhibition of the deleterious effects of these potentially toxic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metagenomic analyses of alcohol induced pathogenic alterations in the intestinal microbiome and the effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG treatment.

TL;DR: Overall, significant alterations in the gut microbiome over time occur in response to chronic alcohol exposure and correspond to increases in intestinal barrier dysfunction and development of ALD.
