Journal ArticleDOI
Branched-chain amino acid, meat intake and risk of type 2 diabetes in the Women's Health Initiative.
Masoud Isanejad,Andrea Z. LaCroix,Cynthia A. Thomson,Lesley F. Tinker,Joseph C. Larson,Qibin Qi,Lihong Qi,Rhonda M. Cooper-DeHoff,Lawrence S. Phillips,Lawrence S. Phillips,Ross L. Prentice,Jeannette M. Beasley +11 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that dietary BCAA and meat intake are positively associated with T2D among postmenopausal women and attenuated but remained positive after adjustment for meat intake suggesting that BCAA intake in part but not in full is contributing to the association of meat with T1D risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body Fat and Breast Cancer Risk in Postmenopausal Women: A Longitudinal Study
Thomas E. Rohan,Moonseong Heo,Lydia Choi,Mridul Datta,Jo L. Freudenheim,Victor Kamensky,Heather M. Ochs-Balcom,Lihong Qi,Cynthia A. Thomson,Mara Z. Vitolins,Sylvia Wassertheil-Smoller,Geoffrey C. Kabat +11 more
TL;DR: Dual-energy-X-ray-absorptiometry- (DXA-) derived measures of body fat obtained in the Women's Health Initiative were used to examine the association between body fat and breast cancer risk; these risk estimates were compared with those for conventional anthropometric measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recommendations for Obesity Clinical Trials in Cancer Survivors: American Society of Clinical Oncology Statement
Jennifer A. Ligibel,Catherine M. Alfano,Dawn L. Hershman,Rachel M. Ballard,Suanna S. Bruinooge,Kerry S. Courneya,Elvan C. Daniels,Wendy Demark-Wahnefried,Elizabeth S. Frank,Pamela J. Goodwin,Melinda L. Irwin,Laura A. Levit,Worta McCaskill-Stevens,Lori M. Minasian,Mark A. O’Rourke,John P. Pierce,Kevin Stein,Cynthia A. Thomson,Clifford A. Hudis +18 more
TL;DR: Recommendations highlight the need for large-scale trials evaluating the impact of energy balance interventions on cancer outcomes, as well as the concurrent conduct of studies focused on dissemination and implementation of interventions in diverse populations of cancer survivors, including answering critical questions about the degree of benefit in key subgroups of survivors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Survival analyses from the Women's Intervention Nutrition Study (WINS) evaluating dietary fat reduction and breast cancer outcome
Rowan T. Chlebowski,George L. Blackburn,M. K. Hoy,Cynthia A. Thomson,Armando E. Giuliano,Philomena McAndrew,Clifford A. Hudis,John Butler,A. Shapiro,Robert Elashoff,Women's Intervention Nutrition Study +10 more
TL;DR: A protocol-mandated survival analysis update of a phase III randomized trial where a dietary intervention targeting fat intake reduction, associated with significant weight loss, improved relapse-free survival compared to control in women with resected, early stage breast cancer receiving conventional cancer management is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary Intake, Supplement Use, and Survival Among Women Diagnosed With Early-Stage Breast Cancer
Juliann Saquib,Cheryl L. Rock,Loki Natarajan,Nazmus Saquib,Vicky A. Newman,Ruth E. Patterson,Cynthia A. Thomson,Wael K. Al-Delaimy,John P. Pierce +8 more
TL;DR: Dietary supplements may improve overall micronutrient intakes of breast cancer survivors, however, vitamin and mineral intakes were not associated with all-cause mortality.
