Photon Enhanced Thermionic Emission for Solar Concentrator Systems
Jared Schwede,Igor Bargatin,Daniel Riley,Brian E. Hardin,Roger T. Howe,Nicholas A. Melosh,Zhi-Xun Shen +6 more
TL;DR: Temperature-dependent photoemission-yield measurements from GaN show strong evidence for photon-enhanced thermionic emission, and calculated efficiencies for idealized devices can exceed the theoretical limits of single-junction photovoltaic cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Engineering Ultra-Low Work Function of Graphene.
Hongyuan Yuan,Shuai Chang,Igor Bargatin,Ning C. Wang,Daniel Riley,Haotian Wang,Jared Schwede,J. Provine,Eric Pop,Zhi-Xun Shen,Piero Pianetta,Nicholas A. Melosh,Roger T. Howe +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time that an ultralow work function graphene is achieved by combining electrostatic gating with a Cs/O surface coating, the lowest reported to date for a conductive, nondiamond material.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
SPIDER: A Balloon-borne Large-scale CMB Polarimeter
B. P. Crill,Peter A. R. Ade,Elia S. Battistelli,S. J. Benton,R. Bihary,James J. Bock,James J. Bock,J. R. Bond,Justus A. Brevik,Sean Bryan,Carlo R. Contaldi,Olivier Doré,Marzieh Farhang,Laura M. E. Montroy,Calvin B. Netterfield,Enzo Pascale,Daniel Riley,J. E. Ruhl,Marcus Runyan,Amy Trangsrud,Carole Tucker,Anthony D. Turner,Marco P. Viero,Donald Wiebe +38 more
TL;DR: Spider as discussed by the authors is a balloon-borne experiment that will measure the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background over a large fraction of a sky at 1 resolution, using six monochromatic refracting millimeter-wave telescopes with large arrays of antenna-coupled transition-edge superconducting bolometers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spider optimization : probing the systematics of a large-scale b-mode experiment
C. J. MacTavish,Peter A. R. Ade,Elia S. Battistelli,S. J. Benton,R. Bihary,James J. Bock,James J. Bock,J. R. Bond,Justus A. Brevik,Sean Bryan,Carlo R. Contaldi,B. P. Crill,Olivier Doré,Laura M. Montroy,Calvin B. Netterfield,Daniel Riley,J. E. Ruhl,Marcus Runyan,Amy Trangsrud,Carole Tucker,Anthony D. Turner,Marco P. Viero,Donald Wiebe +36 more
TL;DR: Spider is a long-duration, balloon-borne polarimeter designed to measure large-scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization with very high sensitivity and control of systematics as mentioned in this paper.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Modeling and characterization of the SPIDER half-wave plate
Sean Bryan,Peter A. R. Ade,Mandana Amiri,S. J. Benton,R. Bihary,James J. Bock,J. Richard Bond,J. A. Bonetti,H. Cynthia Chiang,Carlo R. Contaldi,B. P. Crill,D. Reintsema,Daniel Riley,J. E. Ruhl,Marcus Runyan,Matthew A. Schenker,Jamil A. Shariff,Juan D. Soler,Amy Trangsrud,R. S. Tucker,Carole Tucker,Anthony D. Turner +44 more
TL;DR: In this article, the spectra of the A-cut sapphire were measured at room and cryogenic temperatures, consistent with the physical optics model and the data gave excellent measurements of the indices of A-cuts.
