Journal ArticleDOI

The short-chain fatty acid acetate reduces appetite via a central homeostatic mechanism

TL;DR: It is demonstrated through 13C high-resolution magic-angle-spinning that 13C acetate from fermentation of 13C-labelled carbohydrate in the colon increases hypothalamic 13Cacetate above baseline levels, suggesting that acetate has a direct role in central appetite regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical role for peptide YY in protein-mediated satiation and body-weight regulation

TL;DR: It is suggested that modulating the release of endogenous satiety factors, such as PYY, through alteration of specific diet constituents could provide a rational therapy for obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human Metabolic Syndrome Resulting From Dominant-Negative Mutations in the Nuclear Receptor Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-γ

TL;DR: The results of further detailed pathophysiological evaluation of patients with dominant-negative mutations in PPAR-gamma, the identification of affected prepubertal children within one of the original families, and the effects of thiazolidinedione therapy in two subjects are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Altered adiposity after extremely preterm birth.

TL;DR: The authors' data provide evidence of causal pathways linking accelerated postnatal growth with increased total and subcutaneous adiposity, and illness severity with altered adipose tissue partitioning, and it is suggested that these observations may in part explain the associations between small size at birth and later disease.
