Journal ArticleDOI

Plant organic matter inputs exert a strong control on soil organic matter decomposition in a thawing permafrost peatland.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors compared Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy measurements of solid phase functionalities in plants and SOM to ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometric analyses of plant and SOM water extracts across a palsa-bog-fen thaw and moisture gradient in an Arctic peatland.

Physiological adaptations of leaf litter microbial communities to long-term drought

TL;DR: The results show a clear functional response to drought in grass litter communities with greater allocation to survival relative to growth that could affect decomposition under drought, and suggest, for the first time in a field setting, a trade-off between microbial drought stress tolerance, resource acquisition and growth traits in leaf litter microbial communities.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of lodgepole and spruce needle chemistry impacts on terrestrial biogeochemical processes during isolated decomposition.

TL;DR: The isolated decomposition of spruce and lodgepole conifer needles is investigated to enhance understanding of how needle litter impacts near-surface terrestrial biogeochemical processes and reveals that the inherent chemistry associated with tree species has a greater impact on soilBiogeochemical signatures during isolated needle decomposition.
Journal ArticleDOI

The IsoGenie database: an interdisciplinary data management solution for ecosystems biology and environmental research

TL;DR: The IsoGenieDB is a public and private data infrastructure designed to store and query data generated by the Iso Genie Project, a ~10 year DOE-funded project focused on discovering ecosystem climate feedbacks in a thawing permafrost landscape, and is being expanded to cover the NASA-funded A2A project.
