Journal ArticleDOI
International tables of glycemic index and glycemic load values: 2008
TL;DR: In this article, the authors systematically tabulate published and unpublished sources of reliable glycemic index (GI) values to improve the quality and quantity of GI data available for research and clinical practice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of 4 diets of varying glycemic load on weight loss and cardiovascular risk reduction in overweight and obese young adults: a randomized controlled trial.
Joanna McMillan-Price,Peter Petocz,Fiona S. Atkinson,Kathleen O’Neill,Samir Samman,Katherine S Steinbeck,Ian D. Caterson,Jennie Brand-Miller +7 more
TL;DR: Both high-protein and low-GI regimens increase body fat loss, but cardiovascular risk reduction is optimized by a high-carbohydrate, low- GI diet.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glycemic index, postprandial glycemia, and the shape of the curve in healthy subjects: analysis of a database of more than 1000 foods
TL;DR: The GI provides a good summary of postprandial glycemia and predicts the peak (or near peak) response, the maximum glucose fluctuation, and other attributes of the response curve.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measuring the glycemic index of foods: interlaboratory study

Weickert,Antje R. Weseler,Paul Wilkie,Jian Zhang +49 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that common misconceptions exist about which factors do and do not need to be controlled to improve precision and Controlled studies and cost-benefit analyses are needed to optimize GI methodology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Food glycemic index, as given in Glycemic Index tables, is a significant determinant of glycemic responses elicited by composite breakfast meals
TL;DR: When properly applied in realistic settings, GI is a significant determinant of the glycemic effect of mixed meals in normal subjects, and for mixed meals within the broad range of nutrient composition, carbohydrate content and GI together explained approximately 90% of the variation in the mean glycemic response.
