The role of cockroach allergy and exposure to cockroach allergen in causing morbidity among innercity children with asthma

TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that children who were both allergic to cockroach and exposed to high levels of this allergen had 0.37 hospitalization a year, as compared with 0.11 for the other children (P=0.43) and 2.56 unscheduled medical visits for asthma per year.

TL;DR: A genome-wide search in 140 families with ≥2 asthmatic sibs, from three racial groups and report evidence for linkage to six novel regions, including 5p15 (P= 0.0008) and 17p11.1–q11.2 (/> = 0.0015) in African Americans and 11p15 and 19q13 (P =0.0013) in Caucasians and Hispanics.

A randomized clinical trial to reduce asthma morbidity among inner-city children: results of the National Cooperative Inner-City Asthma Study.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that an individually tailored, multifaceted intervention carried out by Masters-level social workers trained in asthma management can reduce asthma symptoms among children in the inner city.
