Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical subtypes and molecular characteristics of serrated polyposis syndrome.
Carla Guarinos,Cristina Sánchez–Fortún,María Rodríguez Soler,Lucía Pérez–Carbonell,Cecilia Egoavil,Miriam Juárez,Anna Serradesanferm,Luis Bujanda,Fernando Fernández Bañares,Joaquín Cubiella,Luísa Castro,Ana Guerra,Elena Aguirre,Alberto Herreros de Tejada,Xavier Bessa,Maite Herraiz,José Carlos Marín Gabriel,Judith Balmaña,Miriam Cuatrecasas,Francesc Balaguer,Antoni Castells,José Luis Soto,Cristina Alenda,Artemio Payá,Rodrigo Jover +24 more
TL;DR: There were no significant differences in age at diagnosis, sex, smoking frequency, body mass index, or colorectal cancer predisposition between groups of patients, or in the pathologic or molecular characteristics of their polyps.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Prediction Models for Lynch Syndrome Among Individuals With Colorectal Cancer
Fay Kastrinos,Rohit P. Ojha,Celine H. Leenen,Carmelita Alvero,Rowena Mercado,Judith Balmaña,Irene Valenzuela,Francesc Balaguer,Roger C. Green,Noralane M. Lindor,Stephen N. Thibodeau,Polly A. Newcomb,Aung Ko Win,Mark A. Jenkins,Daniel D. Buchanan,Lucio Bertario,Paola Sala,Heather Hampel,Sapna Syngal,Ewout W. Steyerberg +19 more
TL;DR: MMPro and PREMM1,2,6 can well be used to select CRC patients from genetics clinics or population-based settings for tumor and/or germline testing at a 5% or higher risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colorectal cancer prognosis twenty years later.
Luis Bujanda,Cristina Sarasqueta,E. Hijona,Lander Hijona,Angel Cosme,Inés Gil,José Luis Elorza,José Ignacio Asensio,Santiago Larburu,José María Enríquez-Navascués,Rodrigo Jover,Francesc Balaguer,Xavier Llor,Xavier Bessa,Montserrat Andreu,Artemio Payá,Antoni Castells +16 more
TL;DR: Survival in colorectal cancer patients has doubled over the past 20 years, and this increase seems to be partly due to the generalization in the administration of chemotherapy and to the decrease of post surgical mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new approach to epigenome-wide discovery of non-invasive methylation biomarkers for colorectal cancer screening in circulating cell-free DNA using pooled samples
María Gallardo-Gómez,Sebastian Moran,María Páez de la Cadena,Vicenta S. Martínez-Zorzano,Francisco Javier Rodríguez-Berrocal,Mar Rodríguez-Girondo,Mar Rodríguez-Girondo,Manel Esteller,Joaquín Cubiella,Luis Bujanda,Antoni Castells,Francesc Balaguer,Rodrigo Jover,Loretta De Chiara +13 more
TL;DR: This preliminary study shows the viability of microarray-based methylation biomarker discovery using pooled serum cfDNA samples as an alternative approach to tissue specimens and sets an open door for deciphering new non-invasive biomarkers for other types of cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
POLE and POLD1 screening in 155 patients with multiple polyps and early-onset colorectal cancer.
Clara Esteban-Jurado,David Giménez-Zaragoza,Jenifer Muñoz,Sebastià Franch-Expósito,Miriam Alvarez-Barona,Teresa Ocaña,Miriam Cuatrecasas,Sabela Carballal,María López-Cerón,Maria Marti-Solano,Marcos Díaz-Gay,Tom van Wezel,Antoni Castells,Luis Bujanda,Judith Balmaña,Victoria Gonzalo,Gemma Llort,Clara Ruiz-Ponte,Joaquín Cubiella,Francesc Balaguer,Rosa Aligué,Sergi Castellví-Bel +21 more
TL;DR: This is the first study to functionally analyze a POLE genetic variant outside the exonuclease domain and widens the spectrum of genetic changes in this DNA polymerase that could lead to colorectal cancer predisposition.
