TL;DR: In this paper , the authors focus on the 5.0σ tension between the Planck CMB estimate of the Hubble constant H0 and the SH0ES collaboration measurements and discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of intergalactic ionized helium absorption in a high-redshift quasar
Peter Jakobsen,A. Boksenberg,Jean-Michel Deharveng,Perry Greenfield,Robert Jedrzejewski,Francesco Paresce,Francesco Paresce +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the recently refurbished Hubble Space Telescope revealed strong absorption arising from singly ionized helium along the line of sight to a high-redshift quasar, suggesting that it may arise in a diffuse ionized intergalactic medium.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Luminosity, Mass, and Age Distributions of Compact Star Clusters in M83 Based on Hubble Space Telescope/Wide Field Camera 3 Observations

Trauger,Alistair R. Walker,Rogier A. Windhorst,Erick T. Young +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the luminosity function (LF) for clusters outside of the very crowded starburst nucleus can be approximated by a power law, dN/dL ∝ L α, with α =− 2.04 ± 0.08, down to MV ≈− 5.5.
Journal ArticleDOI
High resolution imaging of galaxy cores
Philippe Crane,Massimo Stiavelli,Ivan R. King,Jean-Michel Deharveng,R. Albrecht,Cesare Barbieri,J. C. Blades,A. Boksenberg,M. J. Disney,Peter Jakobsen,T. M. Kamperman,F. Machetto,Craig D. Mackay,Francesco Paresce,Gerd Weigelt,D. Baxter,Perry Greenfield,Robert Jedrzejewski,A. Nota,William B. Sparks +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, surface photometry data obtained with the Faint Object Camera of the Hubble Space Telescope in the cores of ten galaxies is presented, and the major results are: none of the galaxies show truly 'isothermal' cores, galaxies with nuclear activity show very similar light profiles, all objects show central mass densities above 10 exp 3 solar masses/cu pc3.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Luminosity, Mass, and Age Distributions of Compact Star Clusters in M83 Based on HST/WFC3 Observations
Rupali Chandar,Bradley C. Whitmore,Hwihyun Kim,Catherine C. Kaleida,Max Mutchler,Daniela Calzetti,Abhijit Saha,Robert W. O'Connell,Bruce Balick,Howard E. Trauger,Alistair R. Walker,Rogier A. Windhorst,Erick T. Young +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) on the Hubble Space Telescope to obtain multi-band images of the nearby spiral galaxy M83 and found that the luminosity function for clusters outside of the very crowded starburst nucleus can be approximated by a power law.
