Journal ArticleDOI
Neuro-QOL: brief measures of health-related quality of life for clinical research in neurology
David Cella,Jin Shei Lai,Cindy J. Nowinski,David Victorson,Amy H. Peterman,Deborah M. Miller,Francois Bethoux,Allen W. Heinemann,S. Rubin,José E Cavazos,Anthony T. Reder,Robert L. Sufit,Tanya Simuni,Gregory L. Holmes,Andrew Siderowf,Valerie Wojna,Rita K. Bode,Natalie McKinney,Tracy Podrabsky,Katy Wortman,Seung W. Choi,Richard Gershon,Nan E. Rothrock,Claudia S. Moy +23 more
TL;DR: These 13 brief measures of self-reported QOL are reliable and show preliminary evidence of concurrent validity inasmuch as they differentiate people based upon number of reported health conditions and whether those reported conditions impede normal function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuromuscular Stimulation for Upper Extremity Motor and Functional Recovery in Acute Hemiplegia
TL;DR: Data suggest that neuromuscular stimulation enhances the upper extremity motor recovery of acute stroke survivors, however, the sample size in this study was too small to detect any significant effect of neuromUScular stimulation on self-care function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluating walking in patients with multiple sclerosis: which assessment tools are useful in clinical practice?
TL;DR: Of the instruments available, the clinician-observed Timed 25-Foot Walk and patient self-report 12-Item Multiple Sclerosis Walking Scale have properties that make them suitable for routine evaluation of walking performance, with emphasis on their validity, reliability, and practicality in the clinical setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Which walking capacity tests to use in multiple sclerosis? A multicentre study providing the basis for a core set.
Domien Gijbels,Ulrik Dalgas,Anders Romberg,Vincent de Groot,Francois Bethoux,Claude Vaney,Benoit Gebara,Carme Santoyo Medina,Heigo Maamâgi,Kamila Rasova,Benoit Maertens de Noordhout,Kathy Knuts,Peter Feys +12 more
TL;DR: A single short test format at fastest speed accurately describes an MS patient’s general walking capacity, and for intervention studies, a long test is to be considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
A meta-analysis of methylprednisolone in recovery from multiple sclerosis exacerbations
Deborah M. Miller,Bianca Weinstock-Guttman,Francois Bethoux,Jar-Chi Lee,Gerald J. Beck,Vicki J. Block,Luca Durelli,Loredana LaMantia,David Barnes,Finn Sellebjerg,Richard A. Rudick +10 more
TL;DR: Meta-analyses of published studies assessing MP at different doses and in comparison to other steroid products or no treatment recommend studies to determine optimum benefit related to dosage, timing for starting therapy and the most appropriate GCS type.
