Journal ArticleDOI
Early motor activity drives spindle bursts in the developing somatosensory cortex.
Rustem Khazipov,Anton Sirota,Xavier Leinekugel,Xavier Leinekugel,Gregory L. Holmes,Yehezkel Ben-Ari,György Buzsáki +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the interaction between movement-triggered sensory feedback signals and self-organized spindle oscillations shapes the formation of cortical connections required for sensorimotor coordination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuro-QOL: brief measures of health-related quality of life for clinical research in neurology
David Cella,Jin Shei Lai,Cindy J. Nowinski,David Victorson,Amy H. Peterman,Deborah M. Miller,Francois Bethoux,Allen W. Heinemann,S. Rubin,José E Cavazos,Anthony T. Reder,Robert L. Sufit,Tanya Simuni,Gregory L. Holmes,Andrew Siderowf,Valerie Wojna,Rita K. Bode,Natalie McKinney,Tracy Podrabsky,Katy Wortman,Seung W. Choi,Richard Gershon,Nan E. Rothrock,Claudia S. Moy +23 more
TL;DR: These 13 brief measures of self-reported QOL are reliable and show preliminary evidence of concurrent validity inasmuch as they differentiate people based upon number of reported health conditions and whether those reported conditions impede normal function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infantile spasms: A U.S. consensus report
John M. Pellock,Richard A. Hrachovy,Shlomo Shinnar,Tallie Z. Baram,David Bettis,Dennis J. Dlugos,William D. Gaillard,Patricia A. Gibson,Gregory L. Holmes,Douglas R. Nordli,Christine O'Dell,W. Donald Shields,Edwin Trevathan,James W. Wheless +13 more
TL;DR: The overall goal of the workshop was to improve IS outcomes by assisting treating physicians with early recognition and diagnosis of IS, initiation of short duration therapy with a first‐line treatment, timely electroencephalography (EEG) evaluation of treatment to evaluate effectiveness, and, if indicated, prompt treatment modification.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of seizures on developmental processes in the immature brain
TL;DR: Basic developmental principles obtained from animal studies are presented and the long-lasting consequences of epilepsy are examined to determine how neuronal activity modulates the main steps of cortical formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developmental changes in GABAergic actions and seizure susceptibility in the rat hippocampus.
Roustem Khazipov,Ilgam Khalilov,Roman Tyzio,Elena Morozova,Yezekiel Ben-Ari,Gregory L. Holmes +5 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, in the immature hippocampus, GABA exerts dual (both excitatory and inhibitory) actions and that the excite component in the action of GABA may contribute to increased excitability during early development.
