Nanostructure formation mechanism of α-titanium using SMAT

TL;DR: In this paper, a nanostructured surface layer up to 50 μm thick was produced on commercially pure titanium using surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT), and the microstructural features of the surface layer produced by SMAT were systematically characterized by cross-sectional optical microscopy observations, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) investigations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrafast nanoporous silica formation driven by femtosecond laser irradiation

TL;DR: In this paper, induced tracks in fused silica using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with nm resolution were analyzed and it was shown that nanostructures are porous nanoplanes with an av- erage index lower than typical silica.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anatomy of a femtosecond laser processed silica waveguide [Invited]

TL;DR: In this article, a single mode propagation at 1.5 μm is obtained below the damage region whilst at shorter wavelengths guidance is only observed away on either side of the region.
Journal ArticleDOI

Giant Amplification of Photoswitching by a Few Photons in Fluorescent Photochromic Organic Nanoparticles

TL;DR: Fluorescent photochromic organic nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared, showing bright red emission, complete ON-OFF contrast with full reversibility, and excellent fatigue resistance, and upon successive UV and visible light irradiation, the NPs exhibit a complete fluorescence quenching and recovery at very lowphotochromic conversion levels.
