TL;DR: This exercise prioritized the most critical questions regarding the effects of PPCPs on human and ecological health in order to ensure that future resources will be focused on the most important areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitellogenin as a biomarker of exposure to estrogenic compounds in aquatic invertebrates: a review.
TL;DR: This review focuses on a brief description of xenoestrogens and their occurrence in aquatic environments, and on Vg induction in aquatic invertebrates in response to both experimental and environmental exposure to estrogenic compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence of pharmaceutical products in a municipal effluent and toxicity to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) hepatocytes.
TL;DR: The results suggest that the basic redox properties of PPCPs could influence oxidative metabolism in liver cells and lead to oxidative damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers in zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) for the assessment and monitoring of water quality of the St Lawrence River (Canada).
Yves de Lafontaine,François Gagné,Christian Blaise,Georges Costan,Pierre Gagnon,Hing Man Chan +5 more
TL;DR: Five biomarkers were measured in the soft tissues of zebra mussels in order to assess the spatial variation of exposure to contaminants along the St Lawrence River (Canada), and results indicate that the measurement of biomarker responses is technically feasible.
Journal ArticleDOI
An investigation into the acute and chronic toxicity of eleven pharmaceuticals (and their solvents) found in wastewater effluent on the cnidarian, Hydra attenuata
TL;DR: A trend of a reduction in feeding with deterioration in morphology was observed in the Hydra, with the exception of novobiocin, where a lower than expected EC(50) of 13.53 mg/L was found with no negative effect on morphology.
