Toxicity potentials of the nutraceutical Moringa oleifera at supra-supplementation levels.
George A. Asare,Ben Gyan,Kwasi Agyei Bugyei,Samuel Adjei,Razak Mahama,Phyllis Addo,Lydia Otu-Nyarko,Edwin K. Wiredu,Alexander K. Nyarko +8 more
TL;DR: Moringa oleifera is genotoxic at supra-supplementation levels of 3,000 mg/kg b.wt, however, intake is safe at levels ≤ 1,000mg-wt, and hepatonephro-toxicity was nil with no abnormal haematology results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatocellular carcinoma caused by iron overload: A possible mechanism of direct hepatocarcinogenicity
George A. Asare,Kensese S. Mossanda,Michael C. Kew,A.C. Paterson,Christina P. Kahler-Venter,Kwanele Siziba +5 more
TL;DR: The findings are compatible with the hypothesis that the direct hepatocarcinogenic effect of free iron is mediated by the generation of oxygen reactive species and oxidative damage that are mutagenic and carcinogenic.
Journal ArticleDOI
COVID-19 pandemic in resource-poor countries: challenges, experiences and opportunities in Ghana.
TL;DR: Ghana's effective track and trace system, as well as lockdown and other measures, have helped limit mortality with only 85 recorded deaths by 23 June 2020.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary iron overload in the African and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Michael C. Kew,George A. Asare +1 more
TL;DR: The close association between cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with hereditary haemochromatosis and the lesser association in those with dietary iron overload, suggests that chronic necroinflammatory hepatic disease contributes to the malignant transformation.
