First Penning Trap Mass Measurements beyond the Proton Drip Line
C. Rauth,Dieter Ackermann,Klaus Blaum,Michael Block,A. Chaudhuri,Z. Di,Sergey Eliseev,Rafael Ferrer,D. Habs,Frank Herfurth,F. P. Heßberger,Sigurd Hofmann,Hans-Jürgen Kluge,G. Maero,A. Martín,Gerrit Marx,Manas Mukherjee,J. Neumayr,W. R. Plaß,S. Rahaman,Daniel Rodriguez Rodriguez,C. Scheidenberger,Lutz Schweikhard,P. G. Thirolf,G. Vorobjev,C. Weber +25 more
TL;DR: The masses of six neutron-deficient rare holmium and thulium isotopes close to the proton drip line were determined with the SHIPTRAP Penning trap mass spectrometer with new proton separation energies derived from the measured mass values and compared to predictions from mass formulas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct Mapping of Nuclear Shell Effects in the Heaviest Elements
E. Minaya Ramirez,Dieter Ackermann,Klaus Blaum,Michael Block,C. Droese,Ch. E. Düllmann,M. Dworschak,M. Eibach,Sergey Eliseev,E. Haettner,F. Herfurth,F. P. Heßberger,Stefan G. Hofmann,Jens Ketelaer,Gerrit Marx,M. Mazzocco,Dmitrii Nesterenko,Yu. N. Novikov,Wolfgang R. Plaß,Daniel Rodríguez,C. Scheidenberger,Lutz Schweikhard,P. G. Thirolf,Christian Weber +23 more
TL;DR: High-precision mass spectrometry allows the direct measurement of nuclear binding energies and thus the determination of the strength of shell effects, and presents measurements for nobelium and lawrencium isotopes, which also pin down the deformed shell gap at N = 152.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plans for the creation and studies of electron-positron plasmas in a stellarator
T. Sunn Pedersen,J. R. Danielson,Christoph Hugenschmidt,Gerrit Marx,X. Sarasola,Felix Schauer,Lutz Schweikhard,Clifford M Surko,E Winkler +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present plans for the creation and diagnosis of pair plasmas in a stellarator, based on extrapolation of the results from the Columbia Non-neutral Torus stellarator.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mass Measurements of Very Neutron-Deficient Mo and Tc Isotopes and Their Impact on rp Process Nucleosynthesis
E. Haettner,Dieter Ackermann,G. Audi,Klaus Blaum,Michael Block,Sergey Eliseev,T. Fleckenstein,Frank Herfurth,F. P. Heßberger,S. Hofmann,Jens Ketelaer,Jochen Ketter,Hans-Jürgen Kluge,Gerrit Marx,M. Mazzocco,Yuri N. Novikov,W. R. Plaß,S. Rahaman,Thomas Rauscher,Daniel Rodríguez,Hendrik Schatz,C. Scheidenberger,Lutz Schweikhard,Bao-Hua Sun,Peter G. Thirolf,G. Vorobjev,Mu Wang,C. Webe +27 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly low α separation energies for neutron-deficient Mo and Tc are found, making the formation of a ZrNb cycle in the rp process possible, and would impose an upper temperature limit for the synthesis of elements beyond Nb in the Rp process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards direct mass measurements of nobelium at SHIPTRAP
Michael Block,Dieter Ackermann,Klaus Blaum,A. Chaudhuri,Z. Di,Sergey Eliseev,Rafael Ferrer,Dietrich Habs,Frank Herfurth,F. P. Heßberger,S. Hofmann,H.-J. Kluge,Giancarlo Maero,A. Martín,Gerrit Marx,M. Mazzocco,Manas Mukherjee,J. B. Neumayr,Wolfgang R. Plaß,Wolfgang Quint,Saidur Rahaman,C. Rauth,Daniel Rodríguez,C. Scheidenberger,Lutz Schweikhard,P. G. Thirolf,G. Vorobjev,C. Weber +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discussed the perspectives for direct mass measurements of rare isotopes around nobelium and the achievable precision is addressed and the temporal stability of the magnetic field, an important issue for the long measurement times resulting from the low production rates, was investigated.
