Multi-MeV Electron Beam Generation by Direct Laser Acceleration in High-Density Plasma Channels
C. Gahn,George D. Tsakiris,Alexander Pukhov,Jürgen Meyer-ter-Vehn,Georg Pretzler,P. G. Thirolf,Dietrich Habs,Klaus Witte +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured angularly resolved and absolutely calibrated spectra of the multi-MeV electrons produced by relativistic self-channeling in a high-density gas jet.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neutron production by 200 mJ ultrashort laser pulses
Georg Pretzler,A. Saemann,Alexander Pukhov,Dirk Rudolph,T. Schätz,Ulrich Schramm,P. G. Thirolf,Dietrich Habs,K. Eidmann,George D. Tsakiris,Jürgen Meyer-ter-Vehn,Klaus-Juergen Witte +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the observation of neutrons rf:leased from d(d,n) He-3 fusion reactions in the focus of 200 mJ, 160 fs Ti:sapphire laser pulses on a deuterated polyethylene target.

TL;DR: The Miniball germanium detector array has been operational at the REX (Radioactive ion beam EXperiment) post accelerator at the Isotope Separator On-Line facility ISOLDE at CERN since 2001.
Journal ArticleDOI
MINIBALL A Ge detector array for radioactive ion beam facilities
J. Eberth,Gheorghe Pascovici,H.G. Thomas,N. Warr,Dirk Weisshaar,Dietrich Habs,P. Reiter,P. G. Thirolf,Dirk Schwalm,C. Gund,Heiko Scheit,M. Lauer,P. Van Duppen,S. Franchoo,Marc Huyse,R. M. Lieder,W. Gast,J. Gerl,K. P. Lieb +18 more
TL;DR: The MINIBALL array as mentioned in this paper consists of 40 sixfold segmented, encapsulated Ge detectors which are clustered in eight cryostats with three detectors each and four cryostat with four detectors, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct Mapping of Nuclear Shell Effects in the Heaviest Elements
E. Minaya Ramirez,Dieter Ackermann,Klaus Blaum,Michael Block,C. Droese,Ch. E. Düllmann,M. Dworschak,M. Eibach,Sergey Eliseev,E. Haettner,F. Herfurth,F. P. Heßberger,Stefan G. TL;DR: High-precision mass spectrometry allows the direct measurement of nuclear binding energies and thus the determination of the strength of shell effects, and presents measurements for nobelium and lawrencium isotopes, which also pin down the deformed shell gap at N = 152.
