Identification of refugia and post-glacial colonisation routes of European white oaks based on chloroplast DNA and fossil pollen evidence
Rémy J. Petit,Simon Brewer,Sándor Bordács,Kornel Burg,Rachid Cheddadi,Els Coart,Joan Cottrell,Ulrike M Csaikl,Barbara van Dam,John D Deans,S. Espinel,Silvia Fineschi,Reiner Finkeldey,Izabela Glaz,Izabela Glaz,Pablo G. Goicoechea,Jan Svejgaard Jensen,Armin O. König,Andrew J. Lowe,Søren Flemming Madsen,Gabor Matyas,R.C. Munro,Flaviu Popescu,Danko Slade,Danko Slade,H.E. Tabbener,Sven G.M de Vries,Birgit Ziegenhagen,Jacques-Louis de Beaulieu,Antoine Kremer +29 more
TL;DR: Drawing conclusions on the location of glacial period refugia and the colonisation routes derived from molecular information and fossil pollen data appear to be both largely compatible and complementary.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chloroplast DNA variation in European white oaks phylogeography and patterns of diversity based on data from over 2600 populations
Rémy J. Petit,Ulrike M Csaikl,Sándor Bordács,Kornel Burg,Els Coart,Joan Cottrell,Barbara van Dam,John D Deans,S. Dumolin-Lapègue,Silvia Fineschi,Reiner Finkeldey,Amanda C. M. Munro,Maria Olalde,Marie-Hélène Pemonge,Flaviu Popescu,Danko Slade,Danko Slade,H.E. Tabbener,D. Taurchini,Sven G.M de Vries,Birgit Ziegenhagen,Antoine Kremer +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a consortium of 16 laboratories have studied chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variation in European white oaks, including Quercus robur, petraea, pubescens, Q. frainetto, faginea, pyrenaica, and macranthera.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure of the genetic diversity in black poplar (Populus nigra L.) populations across European river systems: Consequences for conservation and restoration
Marinus J. M. Smulders,Joan Cottrell,François Lefèvre,J.R. van der Schoot,Paul Arens,Ben Vosman,H.E. Tabbener,Fabrizio Grassi,T. Fossati,Stefano Castiglione,V. Krystufek,Silvia Fluch,Kornel Burg,Barbara Vornam,A. Pohl,K. Gebhardt,N. Alba,D. Agúndez,C. Maestro,Eduardo Notivol,R. Volosyanchuck,M. Pospiskova,Sándor Bordács,J. Bovenschen,B.C. van Dam,H.P. Koelewijn,David Halfmaerten,Bart Ivens,J. Van Slycken,A. Vanden Broeck,Veronique Storme,Wout Boerjan +31 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the restoration of thenatural habitat and the re-creation of the natural dynamics of the floodplain, in combination with sufficiently sized and spaced natural populations as seed sources, are the most important measures for sufficient natural regeneration and conservation of this species in the future.
Journal Article
Comparison of levels of genetic diversity detected with AFLP and microsatellite markers within and among mixed Q. petraea (MATT.) LIEBL. and Q. robur L. stands
Stéphanie Mariette,Joan Cottrell,Ulrike M Csaikl,P. Goikoechea,Armin O. König,Andrew J. Lowe,B.C. van Dam,Teresa Barreneche,Catherine Bodénès,Réjane Streiff,Kornel Burg,K. Groppe,R.C. Munro,H.E. Tabbener,Antoine Kremer +14 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to compare genetic diversity within and among Quercus spp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of fine-scale genetic structure using nuclear microsatellites within two British oakwoods differing in population history
TL;DR: It is indicated that native oak woods across Europe maintain similar levels and structure of genetic variation, and is probably due to differences in seed dispersal mechanism and regeneration dynamics of the species.
