Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic and Pharmacologic Inactivation of ANGPTL3 and Cardiovascular Disease

TL;DR: Genetic and therapeutic antagonism of ANGPTL3 in humans and of Angptl3 in mice was associated with decreased levels of all three major lipid fractions and decreased odds of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mouse Models for Atherosclerosis and Pharmaceutical Modifiers

TL;DR: The mouse is the most useful, economic, and valid model for studying atherosclerosis and exploring effective therapeutic approaches and the choice of a model should take into account the risk factor to be studied and the working spectrum of the compounds tested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Supplementation with vitamin E but not beta-carotene in vivo protects low density lipoprotein from lipid peroxidation in vitro. Effect of cigarette smoking.

TL;DR: The effect of ingestion of the antioxidants D,L-alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) and beta-carotene and of smoking on the resistance of LDL against copper-mediated oxidation and the susceptibility of LDL to lipid peroxidation is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tumor necrosis factor increases the production of plasminogen activator inhibitor in human endothelial cells in vitro and in rats in vivo

TL;DR: It is most likely that vascular endothelial cells contribute to the increased amount of circulating PAI induced by TNF in vivo, because the number of platelets did not change after TNF injection and the amount of PAI in blood platelets is not sufficient for several hours during an increase in PAI activity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Supplementation With Low Doses of Vitamin E Protects LDL From Lipid Peroxidation in Men and Women

TL;DR: The minimal supplementary dose of vitamin E necessary to protect LDL against oxidation in vitro was ascertained and the resistance of LDL to oxidation was elevated dose-dependently and differed significantly from the baseline resistance time even after ingestion of only 25 IU/d.
