The heterogeneous reaction of ozone with soot aerosol
TL;DR: In this paper, the ozone depletion on carbon soot aerosol was investigated in the temperature range 238-330 K for reaction times up to 72h: 200μg m−3 ozone in dry synthetic air is depleted with an initial reaction probability γ=1.2×10−6 at 296-K. The reaction probability decreases with a characteristic time τ of about 12h (1/τ=k3=(2.3±0.6)× 10−5 s−1) due to surface passivation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heterogeneous ice nucleation activity of bacteria: new laboratory experiments at simulated cloud conditions
Ottmar Möhler,Dimitrios G. Georgakopoulos,Cindy E. Morris,Samuel P. Benz,Volker Ebert,S. Hunsmann,Harald Saathoff,Martin Schnaiter,Richard H. Wagner +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the ice nucleation activities of five different Pseudomonas syringae and Erwinia herbicola bacterial species in the temperature range between −5 and −15°C and found that only a minor fraction of the cells acted as heterogeneous ice nuclei either in the condensation or immersion mode.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ice nucleation on flame soot aerosol of different organic carbon content
Ottmar Möhler,C. Linke,Harald Saathoff,Martin Schnaiter,Robert Wagner,A. Mangold,Martina Krämer,Ulrich Schurath +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of organic carbon (OC) content on the ice nucleation properties of soot aerosol particles was investigated in the AIDA (Aerosol Interactions and Dynamics in the Atmosphere) chamber.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glassy aerosols with a range of compositions nucleate ice heterogeneously at cirrus temperatures
T. W. Wilson,Benjamin J. Murray,Robert Wagner,Ottmar Möhler,Harald Saathoff,Martin Schnaiter,J. Skrotzki,H. C. Price,T. L. Malkin,S. Dobbie,Sardar M. R. K. Al-Jumur +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors test if glassy aerosol distributions with a range of chemical compositions heterogeneously nucleate ice under tropical tropopause layer (TTL) conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The AquaVIT-1 intercomparison of atmospheric water vapor measurement techniques
David W. Fahey,Ru-Shan Gao,Ottmar Möhler,Harald Saathoff,Christoph Schiller,Volker Ebert,Volker Ebert,Martina Krämer,Thomas Peter,Nadir Amarouche,L. Avallone,L. Avallone,R. Bauer,Zoltán Bozóki,Lance E. Christensen,Sean M. Davis,Sean M. Davis,Georges Durry,Christoph Dyroff,Robert L. Herman,S. Hunsmann,Sergey Khaykin,P. Mackrodt,Jessica Meyer,Jessica B. Smith,Nicole Spelten,R. F. Troy,Holger Vömel,Holger Vömel,Steven Wagner,Frank G. Wienhold +30 more
TL;DR: The AquaVIT-1 intercomparison of atmospheric water vapor measurement techniques was conducted at the aerosol and cloud simulation chamber AIDA (Aerosol Interaction and Dynamics in the Atmosphere) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, in October 2007.
