Journal ArticleDOI

Studies of propane flame soot acting as heterogeneous ice nuclei in conjunction with single particle soot photometer measurements

TL;DR: In this article, the ice nucleation efficiency of propane flame soot particles with and without a sulphuric acid coating was investigated using the aerosol and cloud chamber facility AIDA (Aerosol Interaction and Dynamics in the Atmosphere).
Journal ArticleDOI

The AIDA soot aerosol characterisation campaign 1999

TL;DR: An intensive soot aerosol characterisation campaign was organized in October 1999 at the large aerosol chamber facility AIDA in Karlsruhe, with the participation of scientists from nine Austrian, German, Russian, and Swiss Research Centres and Universities who contributed special equipment and expertise as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Silica nanoparticles are less toxic to human lung cells when deposited at the air–liquid interface compared to conventional submerged exposure

TL;DR: Surprisingly, cells exposed at the ALI were less sensitive to silica NPs as evidenced by reduced cytotoxicity and inflammatory responses, and submerged exposure to NPs triggers stronger effects at much lower cellular doses.
