Journal ArticleDOI
Amino-acid Composition of “Tubulin” constituting Microtubules of Sperm Flagella
TL;DR: The so-called “9 + 2” fibres (microtubules) are one of the chief ultrastructures in both flagella and cilia, and can be isolated with minimum contamination of other components.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flagellar movement of human spermatozoa
TL;DR: It is concluded that human spermatozoa in normal Hanks' solution beat with a conical helical waveform having an elliptical cross section, the semiaxes of which have a ratio of 0.2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Studies on flagellar ATPase from sea urchin spermatozoa. I. Purification and some properties of the enzyme.
Kazuo Ogawa,Hideo Mohri +1 more
TL;DR: The purified enzyme showed high substrate specificity for ATP, and several peaks of ATPase activity which appeared on the hydroxylapatite column seemed to be derived from a single form of this enzyme.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human X- and Y-bearing sperm differ in cell surface sialic acid content.
TL;DR: Analysis of cell surface charge of human sperm by means of free-flow electrophoresis revealed that the electrophoretic mobility of X-bearing sperm was faster than that of Y- Bearing sperm, indicating that X- bearing sperm have a higher net negative charge on the cell surface than do Y-bear sperm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative analysis of flagellar movement in hyperactivated and acrosome-reacted golden hamster spermatozoa.
TL;DR: It is suggested that both extreme pro‐ and anti‐hook bends are essential in the acrosome‐reacted spermatozoa even though beat frequency decreased markedly.
