TL;DR: The Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-Infrared (HIFI) was launched onboard ESA's Herschel Space Observatory in May 2009 as mentioned in this paper, which is a set of 7 heterodyne receivers that are electronically tuneable, covering 480-1250 GHz with SIS mixers and the 1410-1910 GHz range with hot electron bolometer mixers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Penetrating 3-D Imaging at 4- and 25-m Range Using a Submillimeter-Wave Radar
Ken B. Cooper,Robert J. Dengler,Nuria Llombart,Tomas Bryllert,Goutam Chattopadhyay,Erich Schlecht,John Gill,Chien-Ping Lee,Anders Skalare,Imran Mehdi,Peter H. Siegel +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high-resolution imaging radar operating at 576-605 GHz is capable of detecting weapons concealed by clothing at standoff ranges of 4-25 m. The present system can image a torso with <1 cm resolution at 4 m standoff in about five minutes.
Journal ArticleDOI
THz Diode Technology: Status, Prospects, and Applications
TL;DR: The current status of diode technology is reviewed, detailing some of the different ways for fabricating THz chips and applications enabled by these diodes.
Journal ArticleDOI
An all-solid-state broad-band frequency multiplier chain at 1500 GHz
TL;DR: In this article, a high-performance all-solid-state broad-band frequency multiplier chain at 1500 GHz was presented, which uses four cascaded planar Schottky-barrier varactor doublers.
Journal ArticleDOI
A High-Resolution Imaging Radar at 580 GHz
Ken B. Cooper,Robert J. Dengler,Goutam Chattopadhyay,Erich Schlecht,John Gill,Anders Skalare,Imran Mehdi,Peter H. Siegel +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high-resolution imaging radar at 580 GHz was developed, which achieved centimeter-scale range resolution while utilizing fractional bandwidths of less than 3% by employing the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar technique.
