The Brazilian Zika virus strain causes birth defects in experimental models
Fernanda R. Cugola,Isabella Rodrigues Fernandes,Isabella Rodrigues Fernandes,Fabiele Baldino Russo,Beatriz C.G. Freitas,João Leonardo Rodrigues Mendonça Dias,Katia de Oliveira Pimenta Guimarães,Cecilia Benazzato,Nathalia Almeida,Graciela Conceição Pignatari,Sarah Romero,Carolina Manganeli Polonio,Isabela Werneck da Cunha,Carla Longo de Freitas,Wesley Nogueira Brandão,Cristiano Rossato,David G. Andrade,Daniele de Paula Faria,Alexandre T. Garcez,Carlos Alberto Buchpigel,Carla Torres Braconi,Erica A. Mendes,Amadou A. Sall,Paolo Marinho de Andrade Zanotto,Jean Pierre Schatzmann Peron,Alysson R. Muotri,Patricia Cristina Baleeiro Beltrão-Braga +26 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the ZIKVBR infects fetuses, causing intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR), and crosses the placenta and causes microcephaly by targeting cortical progenitor cells, inducing cell death by apoptosis and autophagy, impairing neurodevelopment.
Journal ArticleDOI
P2X7 receptor drives Th1 cell differentiation and controls the follicular helper T cell population to protect against Plasmodium chabaudi malaria.
Érika Machado de Salles,Maria N. de Menezes,Renan Siqueira,Henrique Borges da Silva,Henrique Borges da Silva,Eduardo P. Amaral,Sheyla Inés Castillo-Méndez,Isabela Werneck da Cunha,Alexandra dos Anjos Cassado,Flávia Sarmento Vieira,David N. Olivieri,Carlos E. Tadokoro,José M. Alvarez,Robson Coutinho-Silva,Maria Regina D'Império-Lima +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that P2X7 receptor promotes T helper 1 (Th1) cell differentiation to the detriment of follicular T helper (Tfh) cells during blood-stage Plasmodium chabaudi malaria, providing a new insight into malaria immunology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular profiling of isolated histological components of wilms tumor implicates a common role for the Wnt signaling pathway in kidney and tumor development.
Mariana Maschietto,Beatriz de Camargo,Helena Brentani,Paul E. Grundy,Simone Trieger Sredni,Cesar Torres,Louise Danielle de Carvalho Mota,Isabela Werneck da Cunha,Diogo F. C. Patrão,Cecília Maria Lima da Costa,Fernando Augusto Soares,Ricardo R. Brentani,Dirce Maria Carraro +12 more
TL;DR: Results provided molecular evidence of the recapitulation of the embryonic kidney by WT as well as involvement of the Wnt pathway in the earliest events of WT onset.
Down-regulation of ANAPC13 and CLTCL1: Early Events in the Progression of Preinvasive Ductal
Carolina Sens-Abuázar,Elisa Napolitano,Cynthia Aparecida Bueno,Toledo Osório,Ana Cristina,Victorino Krepischi,Tatiana Iervolino Ricca,Nadia P. Castro,Isabela Werneck da Cunha,Maria do Socorro Maciel,Carla Rosenberg,Maria Mitzi Brentani,Fernando Augusto Soares,Rafael Malagoli Rocha,Dirce Maria Carraro,A. C. Camargo +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the gene expression profile in epithelial cells during breast ductal carcinoma (DC) progression has been shown to occur mainly between pure DCIS to the in situ component of a lesion with coexisting invasive DCIS-IDC implying that the molecular program for invasion is already established in the preinvasive lesion.
Journal ArticleDOI
A call to action: molecular pathology in Brazil
Isabela Werneck da Cunha,Renata de Almeida Coudry,Mariana Petaccia de Macedo,Emilio Augusto Campos Pereira de Assis,Stephen Stefani,Fernando Augusto Soares +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided a review of molecular pathology principles as well as the current state of the molecular pathology in Brazil. And they proposed practical and actionable recommendations for the implementation of molecular pathologists throughout the country in order to increase awareness of the importance molecular pathology.
