Evaluation of Methods To Identify the Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase in Enterobacteriaceae
Karen Anderson,David Lonsway,J. K. Rasheed,James W. Biddle,Bette Jensen,Linda K. McDougal,Roberta B. Carey,Angela Thompson,Sheila A. Stocker,Brandi Limbago,Jean B. Patel +10 more
TL;DR: Ertapenem was a more sensitive indicator of KPC resistance than meropenem and imipenem independently of the method used and Carbapenemase production could be confirmed with the modified Hodge test.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of extended-spectrum beta-lactam resistance (SHV-8) in a strain of Escherichia coli during multiple episodes of bacteremia.
J. K. Rasheed,C Jay,Beverly Metchock,F Berkowitz,Linda M. Weigel,J Crellin,Christine D. Steward,B C Hill,A A Medeiros,Fred C. Tenover +9 more
TL;DR: This collection of blood isolates from the same patient appears to represent the in vivo evolution of resistance under selective pressure of treatment with various cephalosporins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of domestically acquired ceftriaxone-resistant Salmonella infections associated with AmpC β-lactamase.
Eileen F. Dunne,Paul D. Fey,Pat Kludt,Roshan Reporter,Farzad Mostashari,Pam Shillam,Julie Wicklund,Corinne Miller,Ben Holland,Karen Stamey,Timothy J. Barrett,J. K. Rasheed,Fred C. Tenover,Efrain M. Ribot,Frederick J. Angulo +14 more
TL;DR: Domestically acquired ceftriaxone-resistant Salmonella has emerged in the United States and mechanisms of resistance are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Interlaboratory Reproducibility of DNA Sequence-Based Typing of Bacteria in a Multicenter Study
Marta Aires-de-Sousa,Kit Boye,H. de Lencastre,Ariane Deplano,Mark C. Enright,Jerome Etienne,Alexander W. Friedrich,Dag Harmsen,A. Holmes,Xander W. Huijsdens,Angela M. Kearns,Alexander Mellmann,Hélène Meugnier,J. K. Rasheed,Emile Spalburg,Birgit Strommenger,Marc Struelens,Fred C. Tenover,Jonathan C. Thomas,Ulrich Vogel,Henrik Westh,Jian-guo Xu,Wolfgang Witte +22 more
TL;DR: DNA sequence-based typing of the Staphylococcus aureus protein A gene showed 100% intra- and interlaboratory reproducibility without extensive harmonization of protocols for 30 blind-coded S. aureUS DNA samples sent to 10 laboratories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Reference Strain, Klebsiella pneumoniae K6 (ATCC 700603), Which Produces the Novel Enzyme SHV-18
J. K. Rasheed,Gregory J. Anderson,Hesna Yigit,Anne Marie Queenan,Antonio Doménech-Sánchez,Jana M. Swenson,James W. Biddle,M. J. Ferraro,George A. Jacoby,George A. Jacoby,Fred C. Tenover +10 more
TL;DR: A consistent reduction in the MICs of oxyimino-β-lactams by at least 3 twofold dilutions in the presence of clavulanic acid confirmed the utility of K. pneumoniae K6 as a quality control strain for extended-spectrum β- lactamase (ESBL) detection.
