Journal ArticleDOI
Pericardial effusions in the cancer population: Prognostic factors after pericardial window and the impact of paradoxical hemodynamic instability
Patrick L. Wagner,Eileen McAleer,Elizabeth E. Stillwell,Matthew J. Bott,Valerie W. Rusch,Wendy Schaffer,James Huang +6 more
TL;DR: Evidence of tamponade, larger effusion volumes, and positive cytology/pathology findings may predict a higher risk of paradoxical hemodynamic instability and anticipate a need for invasive monitoring and intensive care postoperatively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of outcomes between neuroendocrine thymic tumours and other subtypes of thymic carcinomas: a joint analysis of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group
Pier Luigi Filosso,Xiaopan Yao,Enrico Ruffini,Usman Ahmad,Alberto Antonicelli,James Huang,Francesco Guerrera,Federico Venuta,Dirk Van Raemdonck,William D. Travis,Marco Lucchi,Andreas Rimner,Pascal Thomas,Walter Weder,Gaetano Rocco,Frank C. Detterbeck,Robert J. Korst +16 more
TL;DR: Despite the biological aggressiveness of these rare neoplasms, the 5-year survival rate after resection is over 60% and TCs and NETT showed a similar rate of survival and recurrences after surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Management and outcomes of relapse after treatment for thymoma and thymic carcinoma.
Matthew J. Bott,Hanghang Wang,William D. Travis,Gregory J. Riely,Manjit S. Bains,Robert J. Downey,Valerie W. Rusch,James Huang +7 more
TL;DR: Treatment of patients with recurrent or progressive thymic tumors is associated with long-term survival and despite the historical enthusiasm for re-resection, the majority of patients will recur again, therefore reoperation should be considered only in selected patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Second Primary Lung Cancers: Smokers Versus Nonsmokers After Resection of Stage I Lung Adenocarcinoma
R. Taylor Ripley,Robert McMillan,Camelia S. Sima,Saad M. Hasan,Usman Ahmad,Feiran Lou,David R. Jones,Valerie W. Rusch,Nabil P. Rizk,James Huang +9 more
TL;DR: Although smokers have a greater risk of NSCLC, the risk of a second primary cancer developing after resection of stage I lung cancer is comparable between smokers and never-smokers.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Staging and Prognostic Factors Committee of the IASLC is now issuing a call for participation in the next phase of the project, which is designed to inform the ninth edition of the TNM classification for lung cancer.
