Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of increased food insecurity under stringent global climate change mitigation policy
Tomoko Hasegawa,Tomoko Hasegawa,Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Petr Havlik,Hugo Valin,Benjamin Leon Bodirsky,Jonathan C. Doelman,Thomas Fellmann,Page Kyle,Jason F.L. Koopman,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Daniel Mason-D'Croz,Daniel Mason-D'Croz,Yuki Ochi,Ignacio Pérez Domínguez,Elke Stehfest,Timothy B. Sulser,Andrzej Tabeau,Kiyoshi Takahashi,Jun’ya Takakura,Hans van Meijl,Willem-Jan van Zeist,Keith Wiebe,Peter Witzke +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors conduct a multiple model assessment on the combined effects of climate change and climate mitigation efforts on agricultural commodity prices, dietary energy availability and the population at risk of hunger.
Journal ArticleDOI
Agricultural non-CO2 emission reduction potential in the context of the 1.5 °C target
Stefan Frank,Petr Havlik,Elke Stehfest,Hans van Meijl,Peter Witzke,Ignacio Perez-Dominguez,Michiel van Dijk,Jonathan C. Doelman,Thomas Fellmann,Jason F.L. Koopman,Andrzej Tabeau,Hugo Valin +11 more
TL;DR: Using a multi-model assessment approach, this paper quantified the potential contribution of agriculture to the 1.5°C target and decompose the mitigation potential by emission source, region and mitigation mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multi-model assessment of food security implications of climate change mitigation
Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Tomoko Hasegawa,Tomoko Hasegawa,Tomoko Hasegawa,Volker Krey,Keywan Riahi,Keywan Riahi,Christoph Bertram,Benjamin Leon Bodirsky,Valentina Bosetti,Valentina Bosetti,Jessica Callen,Jacques Després,Jonathan C. Doelman,Laurent Drouet,Johannes Emmerling,Stefan Frank,Oliver Fricko,Petr Havlik,Florian Humpenöder,Jason F.L. Koopman,Hans van Meijl,Yuki Ochi,Alexander Popp,Andreas Schmitz,Kiyoshi Takahashi,Detlef P. van Vuuren,Detlef P. van Vuuren +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show the potential negative trade-offs between food security and climate mitigation using a multi-model comparison exercise and find that carelessly designed climate mitigation policies could increase the number of people at risk of hunger by 160 million in 2050.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparing impacts of climate change and mitigation on global agriculture by 2050
Hans van Meijl,Petr Havlik,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Elke Stehfest,Peter Witzke,Ignacio Pérez Domínguez,Benjamin Leon Bodirsky,Michiel van Dijk,Michiel van Dijk,Jonathan C. Doelman,Thomas Fellmann,Florian Humpenöder,Jason F.L. Koopman,Christoph Müller,Alexander Popp,Andrzej Tabeau,Hugo Valin,Willem-Jan van Zeist +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a set of alternative scenarios by five global climate and agro-economic models, which are harmonized with respect to basic model drivers, to assess the range of potential impacts of climate change on the agricultural sector by 2050.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reply to: An appeal to cost undermines food security risks of delayed mitigation
Tomoko Hasegawa,Tomoko Hasegawa,Tomoko Hasegawa,Shinichiro Fujimori,Shinichiro Fujimori,Petr Havlik,Hugo Valin,Benjamin Leon Bodirsky,Jonathan C. Doelman,Thomas Fellmann,Page Kyle,Jason F.L. Koopman,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Hermann Lotze-Campen,Daniel Mason-D'Croz,Daniel Mason-D'Croz,Christoph Müller,Yuki Ochi,Ignacio Pérez Domínguez,Elke Stehfest,Timothy B. Sulser,Andrzej Tabeau,Kiyoshi Takahashi,Jun’ya Takakura,Hans van Meijl,Hans van Meijl,Willem-Jan van Zeist,Keith Wiebe,Peter Witzke +28 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of model ensembles and assumptions for agricultural climate impacts and emissions mitigation, and compare them with state-of-the-art methods of modelling and analysis of these topics.
