Journal ArticleDOI
Broadly targeted human cytomegalovirus-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells dominate the memory compartments of exposed subjects
Andrew W. Sylwester,Bridget L. Mitchell,John B. Edgar,Cara Taormina,Christian Pelte,Franziska Ruchti,Paul R. Sleath,Kenneth H. Grabstein,Nancy Ann Hosken,Florian Kern,Jay A. Nelson,Louis J. Picker +11 more
TL;DR: The first glimpse of the total human T cell response to a complex infectious agent is provided and insight into the rules governing immunodominance and cross-reactivity in complex viral infections of humans is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progressive CD4+ central–memory T cell decline results in CD4+ effector–memory insufficiency and overt disease in chronic SIV infection
Afam A. Okoye,Martin Meier-Schellersheim,Jason M. Brenchley,Shoko I. Hagen,Joshua M. Walker,Mukta Rohankhedkar,Richard Lum,John B. Edgar,Shannon L. Planer,Alfred W. Legasse,Andrew W. Sylwester,Michael Piatak,Jeffrey D. Lifson,Vernon C. Maino,Donald L. Sodora,Daniel C. Douek,Michael K. Axthelm,Zvi Grossman,Louis J. Picker +18 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in the chronic phase of progressive SIV infection, effector site CD4+ TEM cell populations manifest a slow, continuous decline, and that the degree of this depletion remains a highly significant correlate of late-onset AIDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-15 induces CD4+ effector memory T cell production and tissue emigration in nonhuman primates
Louis J. Picker,Edward F. Reed-Inderbitzin,Shoko I. Hagen,John B. Edgar,Scott G. Hansen,Alfred W. Legasse,Shannon L. Planer,Michael Piatak,Jeffrey D. Lifson,Vernon C. Maino,Michael K. Axthelm,Francois Villinger +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that IL-15 dramatically increases in vivo proliferation of rhesus macaque CD4+ and CD8+ T EM cells with little effect on the naive or central memory T (T CM) cell subsets, a response pattern that is quite distinct from that of either IL-2 or IL-7.
Journal ArticleDOI
Induction and Evolution of Cytomegalovirus-Specific CD4+ T Cell Clonotypes in Rhesus Macaques
David Price,David Price,Arlene D. Bitmansour,John B. Edgar,Joshua M. Walker,Michael K. Axthelm,Daniel C. Douek,Louis J. Picker +7 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that, during persistent viral infection, substantial selection pressures and ongoing clonotype recruitment shape the specific CD4+ T cell repertoire and that rapidly exhausted or superseded clonotypes often remain within the memory T cell pool.
Journal ArticleDOI
An anti-CD45RO immunotoxin kills HIV-latently infected cells from individuals on HAART with little effect on CD8 memory
Jesús Saavedra-Lozano,Yanying Cao,J. Callison,Ravindra Sarode,Donald L. Sodora,John B. Edgar,Jeanine Hatfield,Louis J. Picker,D. Peterson,Octavio Ramilo,Ellen S. Vitetta +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that purging latent cells from infected individuals on highly active antiretroviral therapy with the anti-CD45RO IT might reduce the HIV latent reservoir without seriously compromising CD8+ T cell memory responses.
