Journal ArticleDOI

Mice lacking β-carotene-15,15'-dioxygenase exhibit reduced serum testosterone, prostatic androgen receptor signaling, and prostatic cellular proliferation.

TL;DR: This is the first demonstration that Bco1 disruption lowers murine circulating testosterone levels and thereby reduces prostatic androgen receptor signaling and prostatic cellular proliferation, further supporting the role of this protein in processes more diverse than carotenoid cleavage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioavailability of Zinc and Iron from Mature Winged Bean Seed Flour

TL;DR: The relative bioavailability of zinc and iron from mature winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) flour was determined utilizing standard rat bioassay procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macular Xanthophylls and Markers of the Anterior Visual Pathway among Persons with Multiple Sclerosis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and retinal morphometry was examined in individuals with MS and healthy controls, and partial correlations examined the relations between MPOD, retinal morphology, diet, and serum carotenoids.
