Opposite effects of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol on human brain function and psychopathology.
Sagnik Bhattacharyya,Paul D. Morrison,Paolo Fusar-Poli,Paolo Fusar-Poli,Rocio Martin-Santos,Stefan Borgwardt,Stefan Borgwardt,Toby T. Winton-Brown,Chiara Nosarti,Colin M O' Carroll,Marc L. Seal,Paul Allen,Mitul A. Mehta,James M. Stone,Nigel Tunstall,Vincent Giampietro,Shitij Kapur,Robin M. Murray,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,José Alexandre de Souza Crippa,Zerrin Atakan,Philip McGuire +21 more
TL;DR: Functional magnetic resonance imaging in healthy volunteers found that Δ-9-THC and CBD can have opposite effects on regional brain function, which may underlie their different symptomatic and behavioral effects, and CBD's ability to block the psychotogenic effects of Δ- 9- THC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cannabidiol Reduces the Anxiety Induced by Simulated Public Speaking in Treatment-Naïve Social Phobia Patients
Mateus M. Bergamaschi,Regina Helena Costa Queiroz,Regina Helena Costa Queiroz,Marcos Hortes Nisihara Chagas,Marcos Hortes Nisihara Chagas,Danielle Chaves Gomes de Oliveira,Danielle Chaves Gomes de Oliveira,Bruno Spinosa De Martinis,Bruno Spinosa De Martinis,Flávio Kapczinski,João Quevedo,Rafael Roesler,Rafael Roesler,Nadja Schröder,Nadja Schröder,Antonio Egidio Nardi,Antonio Egidio Nardi,Rocio Martin-Santos,Jaime Eduardo Cecílio Hallak,Jaime Eduardo Cecílio Hallak,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,José Alexandre de Souza Crippa,José Alexandre de Souza Crippa +23 more
TL;DR: The increase in anxiety induced by the SPST on subjects with SAD was reduced with the use of CBD, resulting in a similar response as the HC, and no significant differences were observed between CBD and HC in SSPS-N scores or in the cognitive impairment, discomfort, and alert factors of VAMS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT): an updated systematic review of psychometric properties
Carolina de Meneses-Gaya,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,Sonia Regina Loureiro,José Alexandre de Souza Crippa +3 more
TL;DR: The studies analyzed confirm the validity and efficiency of the AUDIT in the identification of harmful use, abuse, and dependence of alcohol, both in the original version and in modified ones, and showed that the reduced versions have satisfactory psychometric qualities, sometimes with sensitivity values higher than those of theAUDIT itself.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cannabis and anxiety: a critical review of the evidence
José Alexandre de Souza Crippa,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,Rocio Martin-Santos,Sagnik Bhattacharyya,Zerrin Atakan,Philip McGuire,Paolo Fusar-Poli,Paolo Fusar-Poli +7 more
TL;DR: The nature of the relationship between cannabis use and anxiety, as well as the possible clinical, diagnostic and causal implications, are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct effects of {delta}9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol on neural activation during emotional processing.
Paolo Fusar-Poli,José Alexandre de Souza Crippa,Sagnik Bhattacharyya,Stefan Borgwardt,Paul Allen,Rocío Martín-Santos,Marc L. Seal,Simon Surguladze,Colin O'Carrol,Zerrin Atakan,Antonio Waldo Zuardi,Philip McGuire +11 more
TL;DR: Delta9-Tetrahydrocannabinol and CBD had clearly distinct effects on the neural, electrodermal, and symptomatic response to fearful faces, and the anxiogenic effects of Delta9-THC may be related to effects in other brain regions.
