Journal ArticleDOI
An immune-based biomarker signature is associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients.
Michael S. Abers,Ottavia M. Delmonte,Emily Ricotta,Jonathan Fintzi,Danielle Fink,Adriana Almeida de Jesus,Kol A. Zarember,Sara Alehashemi,Vasileios Oikonomou,Jigar V. Desai,Scott W. Canna,Bita Shakoory,Kerry Dobbs,Luisa Imberti,Alessandra Sottini,Eugenia Quiros-Roldan,Francesco Castelli,Camillo Rossi,Duilio Brugnoni,Andrea Biondi,Laura Rachele Bettini,Mariella D'Angiò,Paolo Bonfanti,Riccardo Castagnoli,Daniela Montagna,Amelia Licari,Gian Luigi Marseglia,Emily F. TL;DR: Levels of sST2, sTNFRSF1A, IL-10, and IL-15 were consistently higher throughout the hospitalization in patients who died versus those who recovered, suggesting that these biomarkers may provide an early warning of eventual disease outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
SASH3 variants cause a novel form of X-linked combined immunodeficiency with immune dysregulation
Ottavia M. Delmonte,Jenna R.E. Bergerson,Tomoki Kawai,Hye Sun Kuehn,David H. McDermott,Irene Cortese,Michael T. Niemela,Jennifer Stoddard,Douglas B. Kuhns,Raul Urrutia,Sergio D. Rosenzweig,Magdalena Walkiewicz,Philip M. Murphy,Luigi D. Notarangelo +35 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new type of X-linked combined immunodeficiency was defined in humans that recapitulates many of the abnormalities reported in mice with Sly1/- and Sly1Δ/Δ mutations, highlighting an important role of SASH3 in human lymphocyte function and survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
IFNγR1 deficiency presenting with visceral leishmaniasis and Mycobacterium Avium infections mimicking HLH.
Muhammad Bilal Khalid,Sónia Gaspar Lemos,Katherine Myint-Hpu,Debbie Draper,Jennifer Stoddard,Julie E. Niemela,Sergio D. Rosenzweig,Stefania Pittaluga,Ottavia M. Delmonte,Luigi D. Notarangelo +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, Biallelic deleterious recessive variants of IFNGR1 that result in absent expression or defective downstream signaling of IFNγR1, cause failure to activate macrophages in response to interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), rendering innate immunity ineffective in clearing intracellular pathogens.
