Giant optical anisotropy in a quasi-one-dimensional crystal
Shanyuan Niu,Graham Joe,Huan Zhao,Yucheng Zhou,Thomas Orvis,Huaixun Huyan,Jad Salman,Krishnamurthy Mahalingam,Brittany Urwin,Jiang-Bin Wu,Yang Liu,Thomas E. Tiwald,Stephen B. Cronin,Brandon M. Howe,Matthew Mecklenburg,Ralf Haiges,David J. Singh,Han Wang,Mikhail A. Kats,Jayakanth Ravichandran +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate rationally designed, giant optical anisotropy in single crystals of barium titanium sulfide (BaTiS3), which shows an unprecedented, broadband birefringence of up to 0.76 in the mid- to long-wave infrared, as well as a large dichroism window with absorption edges at 1.6
Journal ArticleDOI
Voltage-impulse-induced non-volatile ferroelastic switching of ferromagnetic resonance for reconfigurable magnetoelectric microwave devices.
Ming Liu,Brandon M. Howe,L. Grazulis,Krishnamurthy Mahalingam,Tianxiang Nan,Nian X. Sun,Gail J. Brown +6 more
TL;DR: A voltage-impulse-induced two-step ferroelastic switching pathway can be used to in situ manipulate the magnetic anisotropy and enable non-volatile FMR tuning in FeCoB/PMN-PT (011) multiferroic heterostructures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recessed-Gate Enhancement-Mode $\beta $ -Ga2O3 MOSFETs
Kelson D. Chabak,Jonathan McCandless,Neil Moser,Andrew J. Green,Krishnamurthy Mahalingam,Antonio Crespo,Nolan S. Hendricks,Brandon M. Howe,Stephen E. Tetlak,Kevin D. Leedy,Robert C. Fitch,Daiki Wakimoto,Kohei Sasaki,Akito Kuramata,Gregg H. Jessen +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a Si-doped homoepitaxial channel grown by molecular beam epitaxy was removed using a gate recess process to partially remove the epitaxial channels under the 1-μm gated region to fully deplete at ${V}_{\textsf {GS}}= 0$ V.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tuning Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy by Oxygen Octahedral Rotations in (La_{1-x}Sr_{x}MnO_{3})/(SrIrO_{3}) Superlattices.
Di Yi,Di Yi,Charles Flint,Charles Flint,Purnima P. Balakrishnan,Purnima P. Balakrishnan,Krishnamurthy Mahalingam,Brittany Urwin,Arturas Vailionis,Alpha T. N'Diaye,Padraic Shafer,Elke Arenholz,Yongseong Choi,Kevin H. Stone,Jiun-Haw Chu,Jiun-Haw Chu,Jiun-Haw Chu,Brandon M. Howe,Jian Liu,Ian R. Fisher,Ian R. Fisher,Ian R. Fisher,Yuri Suzuki,Yuri Suzuki +23 more
TL;DR: A conceptually new type of interface induced PMA that is controlled by oxygen octahedral rotation is demonstrated that reveals a new degree of freedom to control PMA, enabling discovery of emergent magnetic textures and topological phenomena.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coexistence of Low Damping and Strong Magnetoelastic Coupling in Epitaxial Spinel Ferrite Thin Films
Satoru Emori,Benjamin Gray,Hyung Min Jeon,Joseph Peoples,Maxwell Schmitt,Krishnamurthy Mahalingam,Madelyn Hill,Michael E. McConney,Matthew Gray,Urusa S. Alaan,Alexander C. Bornstein,Padraic Shafer,Alpha T. N'Diaye,Elke Arenholz,Greg Haugstad,Keng-Yuan Meng,Fengyuan Yang,Dongyao Li,Sushant Mahat,David G. Cahill,Pallavi Dhagat,Albrecht Jander,Nian X. Sun,Yuri Suzuki,Brandon M. Howe +24 more
TL;DR: In this article, magnetically soft epitaxial spinel NiZnAl-ferrite thin films with an unusually low Gilbert damping parameter (<3 × 10-3 ), as well as strong magnetoelastic coupling evidenced by a giant strain-induced anisotropy field and a sizable magnetostriction coefficient (≈10 ppm), are reported.
