Clinical and Biomarker Changes in Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer’s Disease
Randall J. Bateman,Chengjie Xiong,Tammie L.S. Benzinger,Anne M. Fagan,Alison Goate,Nick C. Fox,Daniel S. Marcus,Nigel J. Cairns,Xianyun Xie,Tyler Blazey,David M. Holtzman,Anna Santacruz,Virginia Buckles,Angela Oliver,Krista L. Moulder,Paul S. Aisen,Bernardino Ghetti,William E. Klunk,Eric McDade,Ralph N. Martins,Colin L. Masters,Richard Mayeux,John M. Ringman,Martin N. Rossor,Peter R. Schofield,Reisa A. Sperling,Stephen Salloway,John C. Morris +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a longitudinal study of 128 patients with Alzheimer's disease was conducted, where the authors used the participant's age at baseline assessment and the parent's age to calculate the estimated years from expected symptom onset (age of the participant minus parent's ages at symptom onset).
Journal ArticleDOI
Sulfated glycans stimulate endocytosis of the cellular isoform of the prion protein, prpc, in cultured cells
TL;DR: The results raise the possibility that sulfated glycans inhibit prion production by altering the cellular localization of PrPC precursor, and they indicate that endogenous proteoglycans are likely to play an important role in the cellular metabolism of both PrPC and PrPSc.

Clinical and biomarker changes in dominantly inherited alzheimer's disease
Peter R. Schofield,Randall J. Bateman,Chengjie Xiong,Tls Benzinger,Anne M. Fagan,Alison Goate,Nick C. Fox,Daniel S. Marcus,Nigel J. Cairns,X Xie,Tyler Blazey,David M. Holtzman,Anna Santacruz,Virginia Buckles,Angela Oliver,Krista L. Moulder,Paul S. Aisen,Bernardino Ghetti,William E. Klunk,Eric McDade,Ralph N. Martins,Colin L. Masters,Richard Mayeux,John M. Ringman,Martin N. Rossor,Reisa A. Sperling,Stephen Salloway,John C. Morris +27 more
TL;DR: It is found that autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease was associated with a series of pathophysiological changes over decades in CSF biochemical markers of Alzheimer’s disease, brain amyloid deposition, and brain metabolism as well as progressive cognitive impairment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of BIM, a Proapoptotic BH3-Only BCL-2 Family Member, Is Critical for Neuronal Apoptosis
Girish V. Putcha,Krista L. Moulder,Judith P. Golden,Philippe Bouillet,Jerry Adams,Andreas Strasser,Eugene M. Johnson +6 more
TL;DR: Bim deletion conferred protection against developmental and induced neuronal apoptosis in both central and peripheral populations, but only transiently, suggesting that BIM--and perhaps other BH3-only proteins--serve partially redundant functions upstream of BAX-mediated cyt c release.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bax Deletion Further Orders the Cell Death Pathway in Cerebellar Granule Cells and Suggests a Caspase-independent Pathway to Cell Death
Timothy M. Miller,Krista L. Moulder,C. Michael Knudson,Douglas J. Creedon,Mohanish Deshmukh,Stanley J. Korsmeyer,Eugene M. Johnson +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that BAX is required for apoptotic, but not excitotoxic, cell death, and place BAX downstream of metabolic changes, changes in mRNA levels, and increased phosphorylation of c-Jun, yet upstream of the activation of caspases and suggest a caspase-independent death pathway downstream of BAX in cerebellar granule cells.
