Journal ArticleDOI
Pharmacokinetic aspects of retinal drug delivery.
Eva M. del Amo,Anna-Kaisa Rimpelä,Emma M. Heikkinen,Otto K. Kari,Eva Ramsay,Tatu Lajunen,Mechthild Schmitt,Laura Pelkonen,Madhushree Bhattacharya,Dominique Richardson,Astrid Subrizi,Tiina Turunen,Mika Reinisalo,Jaakko Itkonen,Elisa Toropainen,Marco G. Casteleijn,Heidi Kidron,Maxim Antopolsky,Kati-Sisko Vellonen,Marika Ruponen,Arto Urtti +20 more
TL;DR: This article aims to provide a systematic and quantitative view on the pharmacokinetic factors in drug delivery to the posterior eye segment, based on the literature and unpublished data from the authors' laboratory.
Journal ArticleDOI
LC-MS/MS Based Quantitation of ABC and SLC Transporter Proteins in Plasma Membranes of Cultured Primary Human Retinal Pigment Epithelium Cells and Immortalized ARPE19 Cell Line
Laura Pelkonen,Kazuki Sato,Mika Reinisalo,Heidi Kidron,Masanori Tachikawa,Michitoshi Watanabe,Yasuo Uchida,Arto Urtti,Arto Urtti,Tetsuya Terasaki +9 more
TL;DR: Overall, transporter expression in the ARPE19 and hfRPE cells correlated well and the absolute expression levels were similar, but not identical, which could be a useful basis for further studies on drug permeation in the outer blood-retinal barrier.
Journal ArticleDOI
Melanin binding study of clinical drugs with cassette dosing and rapid equilibrium dialysis inserts
Laura Pelkonen,Unni Tengvall-Unadike,Marika Ruponen,Heidi Kidron,Eva M. del Amo,Mika Reinisalo,Arto Urtti +6 more
TL;DR: The results increase the understanding of melanin binding of ocular drugs and can be further exploited to predict pharmacokinetics in the eye.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation of Intact and Functional Melanosomes from the Retinal Pigment Epithelium.
TL;DR: A new gentle method for fractionation of porcine RPE that produces intact functional melanosomes with minimal cross-contamination from other cell organelles is introduced and it is demonstrated that many membrane proteins remain functional after isolation.
