Quality assurance for image-guided radiation therapy utilizing CT-based technologies: A report of the AAPM TG-179
Jean-Pierre Bissonnette,Peter A Balter,Lei Dong,Katja M. Langen,D. Michael Lovelock,Moyed Miften,Douglas J. Moseley,Jean Pouliot,Jan-Jakob Sonke,Sua Yoo +9 more
TL;DR: A generic quality assurance program for CT-based IGRT systems is proposed in an effort to provide a vendor-independent program for clinical users and to provide consensus recommendations for quality assurance protocols that ensure patient safety and patient treatment fidelity for such systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design, Implementation, and in Vivo Validation of a Novel Proton FLASH Radiation Therapy System.
Eric S. Diffenderfer,Ioannis I. Verginadis,Michele M. Kim,Khayrullo Shoniyozov,Anastasia Velalopoulou,Denisa Goia,Mary E. Putt,Sarah Hagan,Stephen Avery,K. Teo,Wei Zou,Alexander Lin,Samuel Swisher-McClure,Cameron J. Koch,Ann R. Kennedy,Andy J. Minn,Amit Maity,Theresa M. Busch,Lei Dong,Costas Koumenis,James M Metz,Keith A. Cengel +21 more
TL;DR: Using a novel RT apparatus that delivers FLASH proton RT (PRT) using double scattered protons with computed tomography guidance, it is found that FLASH-PRT decreases acute cell loss and late fibrosis after whole-abdomen and focal intestinal RT, whereas tumor growth inhibition is preserved between the 2 modalities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implementation and validation of a three-dimensional deformable registration algorithm for targeted prostate cancer radiotherapy.
He Wang,Lei Dong,Ming Fwu Lii,Andrew L. Lee,Renaud de Crevoisier,Radhe Mohan,James D. Cox,Deborah A. Kuban,Rex Cheung +8 more
TL;DR: A three-dimensional deformable registration algorithm that registers two computed tomography scans by iteratively minimizing their differences in image intensity could be used for optimizing dose calculation and delivery for prostate radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Report of the AAPM TG-256 on the relative biological effectiveness of proton beams in radiation therapy
Harald Paganetti,Eleanor A. Blakely,A Carabe-Fernandez,David J. Carlson,Indra J. Das,Lei Dong,David R. Grosshans,Kathryn D. Held,Radhe Mohan,Vitali Moiseenko,Andrzej Niemierko,Robert D. Stewart,Henning Willers +12 more
TL;DR: Whether the current clinical practice of using a constant RBE for protons should be revised or maintained and the potential clinical consequences of delivering biologically weighted proton doses based on variable RBE and/or LET models implemented in treatment planning systems are assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of portal images and BAT ultrasonography to measure setup error and organ motion for prostate IMRT: implications for treatment margins.
TL;DR: Prostate organ motion appears to predominate over setup error as the major component of variation in target localization, despite patient setup verification with portal images.
