TL;DR: In the sample as a whole, there was no association between social isolation and risk of becoming physically frail or pre-frail, but high social isolation was associated with increased risk of become physically frail in men.

TL;DR: A fundamental role of altered mitochondrial metabolism in the pathological loss of skeletal muscle mass and function in older people is demonstrated, associated with reduced mitochondria numbers and lower NAD+ levels in older individuals with sarcopenia.
