Journal ArticleDOI
Participation of Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Acari: Ixodidae) in the epidemiology of canine visceral leishmaniasis
Maria Teresa Zanatta Coutinho,Lilian Lacerda Bueno,Annelise Sterzik,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,José Ramiro Botelho,Mário De Maria,Odair Genaro,Pedro Marcos Linardi +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the vectorial capacity of R. sanguineus for L. chagasi should be evaluated further, opening new perspectives in the epidemiology of ZVL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Whipworm and roundworm infections
Kathryn J. Else,Jennifer Keiser,Jennifer Keiser,Celia V. Holland,Richard K. Grencis,David B. Sattelle,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,Lilian Lacerda Bueno,S. O. Asaolu,O.A. Sowemimo,Philip J. Cooper,Philip J. Cooper +11 more
TL;DR: Novel anthelminthic drugs are needed, together with vaccine development and tools for diagnosis and assessment of parasite control in the field, and the effectiveness of drug treatment is very high for A. lumbricoides infections, whereas cure rates for T. trichiura infections are low.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biochemical characterization and vaccine potential of a heme-binding glutathione transferase from the adult hookworm Ancylostoma caninum.
Bin Zhan,Sen Liu,Samirah Perally,Jian Xue,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,Peter M. Brophy,Shu-Hua Xiao,Yueyuan Liu,Jianjun Feng,Angela L. Williamson,Yan Wang,Lilian Lacerda Bueno,Susana Mendez,Gaddam Goud,Jeffrey M. Bethony,John M. Hawdon,Alex Loukas,Karen Jones,Peter J. Hotez +18 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that Ac-GST-1, a novel glutathione S-transferase from the adult hookworm Ancylostoma caninum, is a possible drug and vaccine target for hookworm infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of the Necator americanus hookworm larval antigen Na-ASP-2 in Pichia pastoris and purification of the recombinant protein for use in human clinical trials.
Gaddam Goud,Maria Elena Bottazzi,Bin Zhan,Susana Mendez,Vehid Deumic,Jordan L. Plieskatt,Sen Liu,Yan Wang,Lilian Lacerda Bueno,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,Andre Samuel,So Yeong Ahn,Maneesha Solanki,Oluwatoyin A. Asojo,Jin Wang,Jeffrey M. Bethony,Alex Loukas,Alex Loukas,Michael Roy,Peter J. Hotez +19 more
TL;DR: Rat anti-Na-ASP-2 antibody recognized larval-derived ASP-2 and also inhibited larval migration through skin in vitro and provide a foundation for clinical vaccine development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasmodium vivax: Induction of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Regulatory T Cells during Infection Are Directly Associated with Level of Circulating Parasites
Lilian Lacerda Bueno,Cristiane Guimarães Morais,Fernanda Fortes de Araújo,Juliana A. S. Gomes,Juliana A. S. Gomes,Rodrigo Correa-Oliveira,Irene S. Soares,Marcus V. G. Lacerda,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,Ricardo Toshio Fujiwara,Érika Martins Braga +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that patients with acute P. vivax infection presented a significant augmentation of circulating Tregs producing anti-inflammatory as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines, which was further positively correlated with parasite burden.
