The OSCAR-IB consensus criteria for retinal OCT quality assessment.
Prejaas Tewarie,Lisanne J. Balk,Fiona Costello,Ari J. Green,Roland Martin,Sven Schippling,Axel Petzold +6 more
TL;DR: This study presents the first validated consensus QC criteria for retinal OCT reading in MS, and suggests the OSCAR-IB QC criteria to be considered in the context of multicentre studies and trials in MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
The APOSTEL recommendations for reporting quantitative optical coherence tomography studies
Andrés Cruz-Herranz,Lisanne J. Balk,Timm Oberwahrenbrock,Timm Oberwahrenbrock,Shiv Saidha,Elena H. Martinez-Lapiscina,Wolf A. Lagrèze,Joel S. Schuman,Pablo Villoslada,Pablo Villoslada,Peter A. Calabresi,Laura J. Balcer,Axel Petzold,Axel Petzold,Ari J. Green,Friedemann Paul,Friedemann Paul,Alexander U. Brandt,Alexander U. Brandt,Philipp Albrecht +19 more
TL;DR: The recommendations will make reporting of quantitative OCT studies more consistent and in line with existing standards for reporting research in other biomedical areas and represent Class IV evidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinal thickness measured with optical coherence tomography and risk of disability worsening in multiple sclerosis: a cohort study
Elena H. Martinez-Lapiscina,Sam Arnow,James A. Wilson,Shiv Saidha,Jana Lizrova Preiningerova,Timm Oberwahrenbrock,Alexander U. Brandt,Luis E. Pablo,Simone Guerrieri,Ines Gonzalez,Olivier Outteryck,Ann Kristin Mueller,P. Albrecht,Wesley Chan,Sebastian Lukas,Lisanne J. Balk,Clare L. Fraser,Jette L. Frederiksen,Jennifer Resto,Teresa C. Frohman,Christian Cordano,Irati Zubizarreta,Magi Andorra,Bernardo Sanchez-Dalmau,Albert Saiz,Robert A. Bermel,Alexander Klistorner,Axel Petzold,Sven Schippling,Fiona Costello,Orhan Aktas,Patrick Vermersch,Celia Oreja-Guevara,Giancarlo Comi,Letizia Leocani,Elena García-Martín,Friedemann Paul,Eva Havrdova,Elliot M. Frohman,Laura J. Balcer,Laura J. Balcer,Ari J. Green,Peter A. Calabresi,Pablo Villoslada,Pablo Villoslada +44 more
TL;DR: The results provide evidence of the usefulness of monitoring peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer thickness by OCT for prediction of the risk of disability worsening with time in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality control for retinal OCT in multiple sclerosis: validation of the OSCAR-IB criteria
Sven Schippling,Lisanne J. Balk,Fiona Costello,Philipp Albrecht,Laura J. Balcer,Peter A. Calabresi,Jette L. Frederiksen,Elliot M. Frohman,Ari J. Green,Alexander Klistorner,O. Outteryck,Friedemann Paul,Gordon T. Plant,Ghislaine L. Traber,Patrick Vermersch,P. Villoslada,Sebastian Wolf,Axel Petzold +17 more
TL;DR: Substantial agreement for QC assessment was achieved with aid of the OSCAR-IB criteria and the criteria may prove useful for future research and trials in MS using OCT as a secondary outcome measure in a multi-centre setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cortical atrophy patterns in multiple sclerosis are non-random and clinically relevant
Martijn D. Steenwijk,Jeroen J. G. Geurts,Marita Daams,Betty M. Tijms,Alle Meije Wink,Lisanne J. Balk,Prejaas Tewarie,Bernard M. J. Uitdehaag,Frederik Barkhof,Hugo Vrenken,Petra J. W. Pouwels +10 more
TL;DR: Cortical atrophy in multiple sclerosis occurs largely in a non-random manner and develops (at least partly) according to distinct anatomical patterns that showed stronger associations with clinical (especially cognitive) dysfunction than global cortical atrophy.
