Journal ArticleDOI
Bioinspired molecular co-catalysts bonded to a silicon photocathode for solar hydrogen evolution
Yidong Hou,Billie Abrams,Peter Christian Kjærgaard Vesborg,Mårten E. Björketun,Konrad Herbst,Lone Bech,Alessandro M. Setti,Christian Danvad Damsgaard,Thomas Garm Pedersen,Ole Hansen,Jan Rossmeisl,Søren Dahl,Jens K. Nørskov,Jens K. Nørskov,Ib Chorkendorff +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that bioinspired molecular clusters based on molybdenum and sulphur evolve hydrogen at rates comparable to that of platinum, and the current densities at the reversible potential match the requirement of a photoelectrochemical hydrogen production system with a solar-to-hydrogen efficiency in excess of 10%.
Journal ArticleDOI
The importance of surface morphology in controlling the selectivity of polycrystalline copper for CO2 electroreduction
Wei Tang,Andrew A. Peterson,Ana Sofia Varela,Zarko P. Jovanov,Lone Bech,William J. Durand,Søren Dahl,Jens K. Nørskov,Ib Chorkendorff +8 more
TL;DR: It is found that a copper nanoparticle covered electrode shows better selectivity towards hydrocarbons compared with the two other studied surfaces, an electropolished copper electrode and an argon sputtered copper electrode.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tuning the activity of Pt(111) for oxygen electroreduction by subsurface alloying.
Ifan E. L. Stephens,Alexander S. Bondarenko,Alexander S. Bondarenko,Francisco J. Pérez-Alonso,Federico Calle-Vallejo,Lone Bech,Tobias Peter Johansson,Anders K. Jepsen,Rasmus Frydendal,Brian P. Knudsen,Jan Rossmeisl,Ib Chorkendorff +11 more
TL;DR: The most optimal catalyst for oxygen reduction has an ΔE(OH) ≈ 0.1 eV weaker than that of pure Pt, validating earlier theoretical predictions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design of an Active Site towards Optimal Electrocatalysis: Overlayers, Surface Alloys and Near‐Surface Alloys of Cu/Pt(111)
Aliaksandr S. Bandarenka,Aliaksandr S. Bandarenka,Ana Sofia Varela,Mohammadreza Karamad,Federico Calle-Vallejo,Lone Bech,Francisco J. Pérez-Alonso,Jan Rossmeisl,Ifan E. L. Stephens,Ib Chorkendorff +9 more
TL;DR: The electrochemical oxidation of CO is the prototypicalbifunctional reaction, especially where multi-functionality is needed and the control of a given surface on anatom-by-atom basis is particularly challenging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxygen Electroreduction Activity and X‐Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Platinum and Early Transition Metal Alloys
Ifan E. L. Stephens,Alexander S. Bondarenko,Alexander S. Bondarenko,Lone Bech,Ib Chorkendorff +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was studied experimentally on sputter-cleaned polycrystalline electrodes of Pt3Y, Pt5Y and Pt2Y under conditions relevant for low-temperature fuel cells.
