Climate influence on rockfalls in high-Alpine steep rockwalls: The north side of the Aiguilles de Chamonix (Mont Blanc massif) since the end of the ‘Little Ice Age’

Ludovic Ravanel, +1 more
- 01 Mar 2011 -
TL;DR: In this paper, an inventory of the rockfalls that occurred since the end of the Little Ice Age on the north side of the Aiguilles de Chamonix (Mont Blanc massif), ranging in volume from 500 to 65 000 m 3.
Book ChapterDOI

Ice Loss and Slope Stability in High-Mountain Regions

TL;DR: The authors examines the state of understanding of the responses of mid-latitude alpine landscapes to recent cryospheric change, and summarizes the variety and complexity of documented landscape responses involving glaciers, moraines, rock and debris slopes, and rock glaciers.
Journal ArticleDOI

OZCAR: The French Network of Critical Zone Observatories

Jérôme Gaillardet, +148 more
- 29 Nov 2018 -
TL;DR: The OZCAR-RI project as discussed by the authors is a network of instrumented sites, bringing together 21 pre-existing research observatories monitoring different compartments of the zone situated between “the rock and the sky,” the Earth's skin or critical zone (CZ), over the long term.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impacts of the 2003 and 2015 summer heatwaves on permafrost-affected rock-walls in the Mont Blanc massif.

TL;DR: A comparison between the two summers shows a fairly similar rockfall pattern, which suggests a sudden and remarkable deepening of the active layer during these two summers, rather than a longer-term warming of the permafrost body.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rock falls in the Mont Blanc Massif in 2007 and 2008

TL;DR: In this paper, a network of observers (guides, mountaineers, and hut wardens) was initiated in the Mont Blanc Massif in 2005 and became fully operational in 2007.
