TL;DR: For patients with MMA, propionic aciduria (PA) and OTC deficiency (male and female), hyperammonemia was more severe in metabolic crises during than after the newborn period, whereas metabolic acidosis tended to be moresevere in MMA and PA patients with late onset of symptoms.

TL;DR: Neurologic impairment is common in OAD and UCD, whereas the involvement of other organs follows a disease-specific pattern, and the identification of unexpected chronic renal failure in GA1 and ASL deficiency emphasizes the importance of a systematic follow-up in patients with rare diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of milk-feeding type and genetic risk of developing coeliac disease on intestinal microbiota of infants: the PROFICEL study.
Giada De Palma,Amalia Capilla,Esther Nova,Gemma Castillejo,Vicente Varea,T. Pozo,José Antonio Garrote,Isabel Polanco,Ana Jeremías López,Carmen Ribes-Koninckx,Ascensión Marcos,Maria Dolores García-Novo,C. Calvo,Luis Ortigosa,Luis Peña-Quintana,Francesc Palau,Yolanda Sanz +16 more
TL;DR: Overall, milk-feeding type in conjunction with HLA-DQ genotype play a role in establishing infants' gut microbiota; moreover, breast-feeding reduced the genotype-related differences in microbiota composition, which could partly explain the protective role attributed to breast milk in this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of nutrient intake among children and adolescents: results from the enKid Study.
Lluis Serra-Majem,Lourdes Ribas,Carmen Pérez-Rodrigo,Reina Garcia-Closas,Luis Peña-Quintana,Javier Aranceta +5 more
TL;DR: Nutritional risk during infancy and adolescence is associated with socio-economic and educational variables of the family, and some lifestyle factors including physical activity and the quality of the breakfast meal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Galacto-oligosaccharides are bifidogenic and safe at weaning: a double-blind randomized multicenter study.
Silvia Fanaro,Berit Marten,R Bagna,Vittorio Vigi,Claudio Fabris,Luis Peña-Quintana,Federico Argüelles,Katharina E. Scholz-Ahrens,Günther Sawatzki,Richard Zelenka,Jürgen Schrezenmeir,Michael de Vrese,Enrico Bertino +12 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that the addition of GOS (5 g/L) to a follow-on formula positively influences the bifidobacteria flora and the stool consistency in infants during the supplementation period at weaning.
