Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial flora, probiotics, Bacillus subtilis and the search for a long and healthy human longevity.

TL;DR: It is found thatBiofilm-proficient B. subtilis colonized the C. elegans gut and extended the worm lifespan significantly longer than did biofilm-deficient isogenic strains, primarily due to a downregulation of the insulin-like signaling system that precisely is a key partaker in the healthy longevity of human centenarians.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Stress-Responsive Alternative Sigma Factor SigB of Bacillus subtilis and Its Relatives: An Old Friend With New Functions.

TL;DR: The literature on the different regulatory networks that control the activation of SigB and the new roles that have been described in the recent years are updated and reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulation of Biofilm Aging and Dispersal in Bacillus subtilis by the Alternative Sigma Factor SigB.

TL;DR: In Bacillus subtilis, the transcription factors SigB and SinR control whether cells remain in or leave a biofilm when metabolic conditions become unfavorable, and this novel SigB-SinR regulatory circuit might be important for controlling the fitness of biofilms in diverse environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stress-Responsive Alternative Sigma Factor SigB Plays a Positive Role in the Antifungal Proficiency of Bacillus subtilis.

TL;DR: The antagonistic interaction between Bacillus subtilis and the phytopathogenic fungus Fusarium verticillioides is reported, demonstrating that this bacterial-fungal interaction triggers the induction of the SigB transcription factor, the master regulator of B. subtillis stress adaptation.
