Ab Initio Theory of Coherent Laser-Induced Magnetization in Metals
TL;DR: This work presents the first materials specific ab initio theory of the magnetization induced by circularly polarized laser light in metals, and compute effective optomagnetic fields that correspond to the induced magnetizations and provide guidelines for achieving all-optical helicity-dependent switching.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magneto-Optical Detection of the Spin Hall Effect in Pt and W Thin Films.
Christian Stamm,Christoph Murer,Marco Berritta,Junxiao Feng,Mihai Gabureac,Peter M. Oppeneer,Pietro Gambardella +6 more
TL;DR: The measurement of the interfacial spin accumulation induced by the spin Hall effect in Pt and W thin films using magneto-optical Kerr microscopy is reported and it is shown that the Kerr rotation has opposite sign in Ptand W and scales linearly with current density.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetisation switching of FePt nanoparticle recording medium by femtosecond laser pulses
Robin John,Marco Berritta,Denise Hinzke,Cai Müller,T. Santos,Henning Ulrichs,P. Nieves,P. Nieves,Jakob Walowski,Ritwik Mondal,Oksana Chubykalo-Fesenko,Jeffrey McCord,Peter M. Oppeneer,Ulrich Nowak,Markus Münzenberg +14 more
TL;DR: A complete multiscale model is developed which allows us to optimize the number of laser shots needed to switch the magnetisation of high anisotropy FePt nanoparticles and concludes that only angular momentum induced optically by the inverse Faraday effect will provide switching with one single femtosecond laser pulse.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design of a Lambda system for population transfer in superconducting nanocircuits
Giuseppe Falci,A. La Cognata,Marco Berritta,Antonio D'Arrigo,Elisabetta Paladino,Bernardo Spagnolo +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the tradeoff between efficient coupling and decoherence due to broad-band colored noise (BBCN) is addressed, in the class of nanodevices based on the Cooper pair box (CPB) design.
Journal ArticleDOI
Speed and efficiency of femtosecond spin current injection into a nonmagnetic material
Moritz Hofherr,Pablo Maldonado,Oliver Schmitt,Marco Berritta,Ute Bierbrauer,S. Sadashivaiah,A. J. Schellekens,B Bert Koopmans,Daniel Steil,Mirko Cinchetti,Benjamin Stadtmüller,Peter M. Oppeneer,Stefan Mathias,Martin Aeschlimann +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the femtosecond spin injection from an optically excited Ni top layer into an Au bottom layer using time-resolved complex magneto-optical Kerr effect (C-MOKE) measurements was investigated.
