Journal ArticleDOI

A longitudinal analysis of hepatitis C virus replication following liver transplantation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relationship between hepatitis C virus replication, genotype, and the evolution of graft damage in liver transplant recipients with recurrence of HCV infection and found that acute lobular hepatitis was accompanied by a steep increase in HCV RNA levels and the appearance of core and NS4 antigens in the graft.
Journal ArticleDOI

Natural killer cell functional dichotomy in chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C virus infections.

TL;DR: Evidence is provided for a functional dichotomy in patients with chronic HBV and HCV infections, featuring conserved or enhanced cytolytic activity and dysfunctional cytokine production, which may contribute to virus persistence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Care of patients with liver disease during the COVID-19 pandemic: EASL-ESCMID position paper

TL;DR: The challenge hepatologists are facing is to promote telemedicine in the outpatient setting, prioritise outpatient contacts, avoid nosocomial dissemination of the virus to patients and healthcare providers, and at the same time maintain standard care for patients who require immediate medical attention.
Journal Article

Specificity of T lymphocyte cytotoxicity to autologous hepatocytes in chronic hepatitis B virus infection: Evidence that T cells are directed against HBV core antigen expressed on hepatocytes

TL;DR: It is suggested that T cell cytotoxicity in patients with chronic HBV infection is directed against determinants resembling the hepatitis B core antigen on the plasma membrane of hepatocytes.
