Optimal site selection for a high-resolution ice core record in East Antarctica

TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate a systematic approach to site selection for a new East Antarctic high-resolution ice core record using satellite data by airborne radar surveys to produce all-of-Antarctica maps of surface roughness, age at specified depth, elevation and displacement change, and surface air temperature correlations to pinpoint promising locations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antarctic volcanic flux ratios from Law Dome ice cores

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared sulphuric acid flux ratios for major eruptions over the period AD1301-1995 and found that only for the Kuwae eruption (Law Dome ice date AD1459.5) was the H2SO4 flux largerthanthatdeposited by Tambora (Law domeicedate AD1816.7).
Journal ArticleDOI

Late Pleistocene and early Holocene change in the Weddell Sea: a new climate record from the Patriot Hills, Ellsworth Mountains, West Antarctica

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors exploit the potential of upwelling ancient ice from the Patriot Hills in the Ellsworth Mountains to derive the first deuterium isotope record (δD) from continental Antarctica south of the Weddell Sea.
