TL;DR: This work combines satellite observations of its changing volume, flow and gravitational attraction with modelling of its surface mass balance to show that the Antarctic Ice Sheet lost 2,720 ± 1,390 billion tonnes of ice between 1992 and 2017, which corresponds to an increase in mean sea level of 7.6‚¬3.9 millimetres.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconstructions of the 1900–2015 Greenland ice sheet surface mass balance using the regional climate MAR model
Xavier Fettweis,Jason E. Box,Cécile Agosta,Charles Amory,Christoph Kittel,Charlotte Lang,Dirk van As,Horst Machguth,Horst Machguth,Hubert Gallée +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the recent Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) surface mass balance (SMB) decrease relative to the last century, and they have forced the regional climate MAR (Modele Atmospherique Regional; version 3.5.2) model with the ERA-Interim (ECMWF Interim Re-Analysis; 1979-2015), ERA-40 (1958-2001), NCEP-NCARv1 (National Centers for Environmental Prediction-National Center for Atmospheric Research Reanalysis version 1; 1948−2015), N CEP-

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results from ice flow model simulations from 13 international groups focusing on the evolution of the Antarctic ice sheet during the period 2015-2100 as part of the Ice Sheet Model Comparison for CMIP6 (ISMIP6).
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of the Antarctic surface mass balance using the regional climate model MAR (1979-2015) and identification of dominant processes
Cécile Agosta,Cécile Agosta,Cécile Agosta,Charles Amory,Christoph Kittel,Anais Orsi,Vincent Favier,Hubert Gallée,Michiel R. van den Broeke,Jan T. M. Lenaerts,Jan T. M. Lenaerts,Jan Melchior van Wessem,Willem Jan van de Berg,Xavier Fettweis +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate new simulations of the polar RCM MAR forced by three reanalyses, ERA-Interim, JRA-55, and MERRA-2, for the period 1979-2015, and compare MAR results to the last outputs of the RCM RACMO2 forced by ERA-interim.

Century-scale simulations of the response of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet to a warming climate
Stephen Cornford,Daniel F. Martin,Antony J. Payne,Esmond G. Ng,A. M. Le Brocq,Rupert Gladstone,Thomas L Edwards,Sarah Shannon,Cécile Agosta,Cécile Agosta,M. R. van den Broeke,Hh Hellmer,Gerhard Krinner,Stefan R. M. Ligtenberg,Ralph Timmermann,David G. Vaughan +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the BISICLES adaptive mesh ice sheet model is used to carry out one, two, and three century simulations of the fast-flowing ice streams of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, deploying sub-kilometer resolution around the grounding line since coarser resolution results in substantial underestimation of the response.
