Journal ArticleDOI
The 10-year cost-effectiveness of lifestyle intervention or metformin for diabetes prevention: An intent-to-treat analysis of the DPP/DPPOS
William H. Herman,Sharon L. Edelstein,Robert E. Ratner,Maria G. Montez,Ronald T. Ackermann,Trevor J. Orchard,Mary A. Foulkes,Ping Zhang,Christopher D. Saudek,Morton B. Brown +9 more
TL;DR: Over 10 years, from a payer perspective, lifestyle was cost-effective and metformin was marginally cost-saving compared with placebo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ewing's sarcoma of bone: Clinicopathologic aspects of 303 cases from the intergroup Ewing's sarcoma study
TL;DR: Of the several recognized histologic patterns, the filagree pattern--an organoid pattern consisting of bicellular strands of tissue separated by filmy vascular stroma--was associated with the lowest survival rates, and the most important predictor of clinical behavior, regardless of treatment modality, was the site of primary involvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary Ewing's sarcoma involving the bones of the head and neck.
Gene P. Siegal,William R. Oliver,William R. Reinus,Louis A. Gilula,Mary A. Foulkes,John M. Kissane,Frederic B. Askin +6 more
TL;DR: The gnathic bones were commonly affected, yet there was no associated mortality; no patient with primary disease in the bones of the head and neck who survived for 5 years on any of the IESS protocols has subsequently died.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multicenter Comparison of Lung and Oral Microbiomes of HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected Individuals.
James M. Beck,Patrick D. Schloss,Arvind Venkataraman,Homer L. Twigg,Kathleen A. Jablonski,Frederic D. Bushman,Thomas B. Campbell,Emily S. Charlson,Ronald G. Collman,Kristina Crothers,Jeffrey L. Curtis,Kimberly L. Drews,Sonia C. Flores,Andrew P. Fontenot,Mary A. Foulkes,Ian Frank,Elodie Ghedin,Laurence Huang,Susan V. Lynch,Alison Morris,Brent E. Palmer,Thomas M. Schmidt,Erica Sodergren,George M. Weinstock,Vincent B. Young +24 more
TL;DR: The overall similarity of the microbiomes in participants with and without HIV infection was unexpected, because HIV-infected individuals with relatively preserved CD4 cell counts are at higher risk for lower respiratory tract infections, indicating impaired local immune function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Local recurrence, rate and sites of metastases, and time to relapse as a function of treatment regimen, size of primary and surgical history in 62 patients presenting with non-metastatic Ewing's sarcoma of the pelvic bones
Richard G. Evans,Mark E. Nesbit,Fred Askin,Omer Burgert,Ayten Cangir,Mary A. Foulkes,Edmund A. Gehan,Louis A. Gilula,John M. Kissane,John Makley,James R. Neff,Carlos A. Perez,Douglas J. Pritchard,Melvin Tefft,Patrick R.M. Thomas,Teresa J. Vietti +15 more
TL;DR: No significant difference in median survival could be detected in patients with pelvic primaries between regimens I, II and III and the possible reasons for the poor prognosis of pelvic primary patients are discussed together with treatment policies that might improve the survival of this group of patients.
