Astrocytes Are Endogenous Regulators of Basal Transmission at Central Synapses
Aude Panatier,Joanne Vallée,Michael Haber,Keith K. Murai,Jean-Claude Lacaille,Richard Robitaille +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that astrocytes in the hippocampal CA1 region detect synaptic activity induced by single-synaptic stimulation and increase basal synaptic transmission, finding an essential role in the regulation of elementary synaptic communication and providing insight into fundamental aspects of brain function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cooperative astrocyte and dendritic spine dynamics at hippocampal excitatory synapses
TL;DR: This work presents a system that can be used to characterize the intricate relationship between astrocytic processes and synaptic structures in situ using organotypic hippocampal slices, a preparation that retains the three-dimensional architecture ofAstrocyte–synapse interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
DCC Expression by Neurons Regulates Synaptic Plasticity in the Adult Brain
Katherine E. Horn,Stephen D. Glasgow,Delphine Gobert,Sarah-Jane Bull,Tamarah L. Luk,Jacklyn Girgis,Marie-Ève Tremblay,Danielle McEachern,Jean-François Bouchard,Michael Haber,Edith Hamel,Paul Krimpenfort,Keith K. Murai,Anton Berns,Guy Doucet,C. Andrew Chapman,Edward S. Ruthazer,Timothy E. Kennedy +17 more
TL;DR: DCC activation of Src is required for NMDAR-dependent LTP and certain forms of learning and memory and it is demonstrated that enhancing NMD AR function or activating Src rescues LTP in the absence of DCC.
Journal ArticleDOI
EphA4 signaling regulates phospholipase Cgamma1 activation, cofilin membrane association, and dendritic spine morphology.
Lei Zhou,Sarah J. Martinez,Michael Haber,Emma V. Jones,David Bouvier,Guy Doucet,Amadou T. Corera,Edward A. Fon,Andreas H. Zisch,Keith K. Murai +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ephrin stimulation of EphA4 leads to the recruitment and activation of phospholipase Cγ1 (PLCγ1) in heterologous cells and in hippocampal slices and modulate the association of the actin depolymerizing/severing factor cofilin with the plasma membrane.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beneficial effects of secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor after spinal cord injury
Nader Ghasemlou,Delphine Bouhy,Jingxuan Yang,Rubèn López-Vales,Michael Haber,Thusanth Thuraisingam,Guoan He,Danuta Radzioch,Aihao Ding,Samuel David +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that recombinant secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor injected intraperitoneally localizes to the nucleus of circulating leukocytes, is detected in the injured spinal cord, reduces activation of nuclear factor-kappaB and expression of tumour necrosis factor-alpha, and might be useful for the treatment of acute spinal cord injury.
