Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison of the accuracy of film-screen mammography, full-field digital mammography, and digital breast tomosynthesis
Michael J Michell,Asif Iqbal,RK Wasan,David Evans,Clare Peacock,C.P. Lawinski,Abdel Douiri,Abdel Douiri,R. Wilson,P Whelehan +9 more
TL;DR: The addition of DBT increases the accuracy of mammography compared to FFDM and film-screen mammography combined andFilm- screen mammography alone in the assessment of screen-detected soft-tissue mammographic abnormalities.
Journal ArticleDOI
The TOMMY trial: a comparison of TOMosynthesis with digital MammographY in the UK NHS Breast Screening Programme - a multicentre retrospective reading study comparing the diagnostic performance of digital breast tomosynthesis and digital mammography with digital mammography alone.
Fiona J. Gilbert,Lorraine Tucker,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Paula Willsher,Julie Cooke,Karen A Duncan,Michael J Michell,Hilary M Dobson,Yit Yoong Lim,Hema Purushothaman,Celia Strudley,Susan M. Astley,Oliver Morrish,Kenneth C. Young,Stephen W. Duffy +14 more
TL;DR: The specificity of DBT and 2D was better than 2D alone but there was only marginal improvement in sensitivity, and the performance of synthetic 2D appeared to be comparable to standard 2D.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accuracy of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for Depicting Breast Cancer Subgroups in a UK Retrospective Reading Study (TOMMY Trial)
Fiona J. Gilbert,Lorraine Tucker,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Paula Willsher,Julie Cooke,Karen A Duncan,Michael J Michell,Hilary M Dobson,Yit Yoong Lim,Tamara Suaris,Susan M. Astley,Oliver Morrish,Kenneth C. Young,Stephen W. Duffy +13 more
TL;DR: The addition of DBT increased the sensitivity of 2D mammography in patients with dense breasts and the specificity of 2 D mammography for all subgroups, and the use of synthetic 2D DBT demonstrated performance similar to that of standard 2D Mammography with DBT.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group breast imaging classification
Anthony J. Maxwell,N.T. Ridley,G. Rubin,Matthew G. Wallis,Fiona J. Gilbert,Michael J Michell +5 more
TL;DR: Following wide consultation, the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group has produced a scoring system for the classification of breast imaging that will facilitate audit and the development of nationally agreed standards for the investigation of women with breast disease.

Reed,C Rubin,K Toward,D Winston,Joan Austoker,A Berrington,Roger G. Blanks,Nicholas E. Day,T J Day,Henrik Møller,M Quinn,Matthew G. Wallis,Wilson Arm.,Cancer Acb. +25 more
TL;DR: Although some have questioned the value of screening for breast cancer, the scientific evidence demonstrates clearly that regular mammographic screening between the ages of 50 and 70 years reduces mortality from the malignancy.
